This is a subject that relates to the very essence of airbnb.
What I like the most when travelling, is checking in to hosts private homes, maybe sharing more than just living space.
And likewise as host, I enjoy having people from anywhere and everywhere staying in my home and getting a feel of how it is to be living like me.
From all the great reviews I have had the pleasure to receive, I know that this is the experience other users have too.
Occasionally I have booked homes that turned oput to be 'homes' only in appearance: hosts lending out multiple places, often just managing for owners/companies with scores of properties.
In my opinion they do not belong on airbnb. I know it is controversial, and I don't mind the idea of letting out several places. But in my view it is damaging to the idea behind and the brand of airbnb. There are plenty of other online services for letting out for these owners/companies.
A huge drop in earnings of course would be the result for airbnb, if somehow letting out were to be regulated in tghis manner, but in the long run it would be the right thing to do. In my country (Denmark)as well as in other parts of Europe, airbnb has met a tremendous negative critique lately, partly for giving users the possibility for tax evasion, but mostly for what is considered speculation in the market of living space. Noteworthy is Berlin, where airbnb has been fully banned because of apartments being bought only with the intention of letting out through airbnb ...
