PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE DETERMINES NUMBER OF GUESTS NOT NUMBER OF BEDS OR SPACE

PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE DETERMINES NUMBER OF GUESTS NOT NUMBER OF BEDS OR SPACE

During the last five days I have had to turn down three bookings because the guests do not seem to understand the importance of public liability insurance. I am sure you have all had guests who want to bring along that blow up mattress for the extra child but do not seem to understand the risk both them and the host could be taking. I try to explain that it is the insurance company that determines the number of guests allowed not the number of beds or the amount of space. The terrible lose of life in London due to that fire has focused both insurers over here and policy holders! I do not accept more guests than I am insured to have in each lodge, it doesn't matter if its a child or a great grandma they still count towards number of occupants. Just food for thought now, BNB do not include infants but my insurers do (NFU) so when I ask for number of guests I have to include infants.

Have fun folks best wishes Shaun.

@Shaun69  In my city in California, USA, the City determines the number of allowable overnight guests based on 2 guests per bedroom.  The maximum short term overnight guests, no matter how large the house might be is 8.  As both a resident here and a host here, I appreciate the limits.

@Linda108 That is the great advantage of living in the USA, you have rules that are easy to follow and do not lead to mistakes being made. UK rules are very vague on this subject, the reason I posted was to bring to the attention of fellow hosts just what a "minefield" this subject is !!!! Atleast we are having a heatwave here so I can pretend I live in California!!!!!!
