What happens when a host indicates that he/she would not recommend a guest to other hosts?

Superhosts here, with 101 reviews. We have 2 properties, 1 our townhome where we live, and a condo in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, USA. In the past 2 years, we've only had 1 time that we indicated we would not recommend a guest (we were her first Airbnb experience) to other hosts. It was obvious from what was left behind (cases of empty beer bottles and wine jugs for 1 weekend) and photos of guests leaving that there were more than our maximum of 4 guests in the 2-bedroom, 1 bath condo in the mountains, and 2 appeared to be underaged.  The guest who booked was college-aged. We have no problem with alcohol per se, but the amount of empties was ridiculous for what was supposed to be 4 guests max and there were signs they had a problem with the 2-month-old toilet in the only bathroom which also made us suspicious.

Just wondering how this "un" recommendation shows up to other hosts when the guest attempts to book? Thanks for any feedback.

The only way hosts can see this is if a profile has reviews but no recommendations or more reviews than recommendations.

We give reviews that are honest and sometimes we can't recommend the guests, mostly because they've trashed the place.

The review is there but they don't get the little "[Guest} is recommended by # of hosts] added near their profile.

@Brian & Amy, not all hosts can see the "recommended by # of hosts" (myself included) so I feel like there has to be another way!

@Emilia42 If you look at a person's profile, it's always there. At least for me in a browser. I'm not sure what situation would preclude anyone from seeing it. It looks like the below.

Here is my view. No "recommended by"

@Emilia42 Yeah it’s the same for us, we can’t see any “Guest recommended by x hosts” thing either... annoying.

@Ben551 @Emilia42 Are you logged into your dashboard before looking at a profile?

The only other thing I can think of is that it's being populated by a Chrome plug-in I use called AirReview. (It's quite useful if you don't have it.)

But that's not one of the features it's supposed to provide.

And even when I disable it, I still see the "recommended by" line.

@Amy-and-Brian0 Oh thanks for the reply. Yeah I’ve used AirReview since the beginning, but it doesn’t seem to help with this. I’ve looked every way I can think of, on multiple devices and browsers, but it just doesn’t show. I concluded a while back that the feature must not be enabled in NZ.

@Ben551 that's really weird! I can't see why they would allow some to see it and others to not see it. Might be worth a note to support to see why? That info is pretty useful to me (and clearly to other hosts).

@Amy-and-Brian0 Yeah it sure is weird. Hey, if you send me a link to a profile where you can see it, I’ll view the same profile and check my side. That would show for sure if it’s enabled or not in my part of the world.

@Ben@Amy-and-Brian0I use Airreview and love it! When I first started hosting, I could see the "recommended by" and then one day it just went away. I thought it went away for everyone but then I saw hosts still talking about it here. Another weird thing is that I found out my co-host still has access to it. So if I have a funny feeling about a guest I ask them to log in and take a look to see how many hosts recommend but I still can't see a thing.

@Ben551 Here is a guest from @Scott-and-Mary-Ellen0's listing. They have 5 reviews and only 4 recommendations. It's pretty clear who did not recommend them. https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/169295226

Here is what I see:profile.jpg

@Scott-and-Mary-Ellen0 @Amy-and-Brian0 @Emilia42 @Ben551 it's not always safe to assume fewer recommendations that reviews means a thumbs down. There are at least two other ways this can happen:  (1) the guest is reviewed as part of a group in which they were not the booking guest, and (2) the guest is reviewed more than once by the same host.

@Lisa723 Agreed. But it's pretty clear in those cases. You just have to look.

Hey thanks for posting that @Amy-and-Brian0 - I have opened the exact same profile, while logged in on my Airbnb profile.  I see the below, which is missing the message you can see.

I already know that our Airbnb interface is different, however, because.... unlike this entire community... I can see guest profile pictures (shhhh, I don't want it to get out lol... maybe they forgot NZ in their update).
