a guest asking for a partial refund

A woman and her son had been booked in to stay for 2 nights by her mother.

They never showed up - or rather I thought they hadn't, so I contacted the mother in the morning saying I could see her daughter and grandson weren't staying and that I hoped everything was ok.  We ended up talking on the phone. She said he daughter and her husband had come to the camp site and couldn't find me (I tell everyone which is their tent before they come so that they can just go straight to their tent. I was just further down the field - not very far away.) She said they said that the tent was covered in flies. I haven't seen any flies at the camp site at all. Even if there were some it wouldn't be surprising as it is a sheep field - as it says in the listing. And finally the toilets - compost toilets. Now here, yes, there was a problem. This was the opening day and the toilet seats hadn't arrived. Some guests had arrived earlier and I had appoligised profusely about this, they didn't seem to have a problem and just used them anyway, sitting on the painted plywood. By an hour later toilet seats had come and been fitted. It was a very short-lived problem, but I agree - not good. I

Apparently the daughter has an immune issue and needs things very clean. Apparently she'd looked at all of this and decided she couldn't do it, couldn;'t stay, and went back to her mother in tears. The mother wants a full refund - £86. I challenged this a bit and we agreed, reluctantly on my part, on £70. I still feel that perhaps someone with an immune problem shouldn't go camping in a sheep field with compost toilets...

Interested to hear what other people think. You could say - oh well, £70 isn't much. Just give it to her. And I probably will, just to have it all finished.  But is she being reasonable. Apart from the toilet seats not being there for the first hour everything ewas as described in the listing.

I would refund 100% as a gesture of goodwill.

 @Mary574 You should never have accepted the booking to begin with it was a 3rd party booking. Also change you cancellation policy to at moderate and add in some rules.

@Lisa723  I disagree with you, the girl with immune issues should never have planned a trip like this. The listing is clear compost loo's. It's all on her. No refund.

Interacting with farm animals is an important experience for children and adults. Being able to touch and watch the animals helps people to learn about agriculture and encourages the human-animal bond.

For many, interacting with live farm animals, including cattle; sheep; pigs; goats; llamas; alpacas; and poultry only happens at petting zoos or on farm visits. For others, working with farm animals has been a lifestyle and tradition. Some people even choose to keep farm animals, including pot-bellied pigs, as pets.

Despite the many benefits of interacting with farm animals, people should be aware that farm animals can carry germs that make people sick.

Diseases that pass from animals to humans are called zoonotic diseases. These diseases can cause a variety of illnesses, from minor skin rashes to serious infections.

By following some simple health tips you and your family are less likely to get sick from touching, petting, or owning farm animals.

@Letti0 you disagree that that's what I would do?  🙂

@Lisa723  LOL not a complete sentence. I disagree with refunding the woman who booked against the AirBnB TOS anything. You may do what you want of course LMAO I need to re-read things better sometimes ;D I was was typing something up recently and almost died of  embrassment. I put "I just love and prefer the taste of the testicles" instead of tentacles in a discussion on calamari. Talk about an oops...

If she has a problem with flies and questionable toilets then she should never go camping in Australia. That being said Airbnb may refund her anyway, given that the toilets weren't as described.

@Noel63  Australia ? As far i can see this "camping event" is in the UK

Yes I was comparing the experience to that of my own country.

@Mary574

It is a third party booking, it should not be made and you should not accepted it. Such a booking is a violations of Airbnb terms. But it was not a success anyway, as we can read from your posting. Refund them the 70,- and close the case.

@Emiel1 I actually have met some people that do not know the difference between Australia and the UK. 😄

@Fred13  I was at a party and a woman was complaining about all the issues she was having booking a place in Russia, she booked Italy with no issues. "I don't understand what the issues are it's ALL Europe. How can they demand things I didn't need for the other booking?"  Guess she never paid attention during Geography classes in school lol...

My goodness. Reminds me of the lady complaining about the busy deer crossing and the fact everyone had to slow down for the deer;  she wondered why the state didn't just move the sign and the deer would follow and it would solve the problem.

@Fred13 @Letti0

I've seen people who didn't know China, Korea, and Japan are different countries with different languages. When informed, they looked confused and said "but you all USED TO BE one country, right? and you can still understand each other, right?" Seemed shocked to hear that  Chinese, Korean and Japansese are totally different languages with completely different alphabets.

.

Hi @Fred13 ,

there isn't much difference between Australia and the UK.

In both countries they are driving on whe wrong side of the street.
