cancellation fee

We had a guest who was in the process of booking our house for Thanksgiving. I don't know if because of the Instant Booking or what, she thought she was sending an Inquiry, but it actually confirmed her trip. Well, turns out, the airfare went up and they can't afford to come. So now she has to cancel.

She is a new user to airbnb and is struggling a bit to figure out how to cancel it... Plus, I think she's going to get charged the $50 fee, which I am sure she will be bummed about, especially since she sort of "accidentally" booked with us.

I would cancel for her, but of course then I am charged and lose my Superhost status, etc.

Is there any grace airbnb? I don't want to scare this new user off!

Kristina

 I had a similar experience with an Airbnb newbie yesterday.    I did everything I could do on my end for her while trying to explain how Airbnb functions.

@Kristina0 and @Karen0

Definitely do not cancel or you'll get penalized big time.

I'd give her Airbnb's customer support number so they can help her

Good luck!

She will only be charged the Airbnb fees for her cancel.  When you cancel there is a $50 penalty to you, so don't do that!  There is no grace period and, unfortunately, people need to be responsible for their own actions when using a website.  I really appreciate your empathy and concern that her first experience will be her last.  It's nice to see people caring about their fellow users.
