About the house I stayed with my family

Hi,

I have booked holiday in France Bordeaux for 5 nights with my family. The host is asking money to pay for the chocolate stain on the sofa. He is asking the price for the sofa. His stairs made of plastic and when you walk on it it is wobbly. The upstairs roof s too low and hit my kids head. It is not a safety house to stay. My kids hit their head every time. We paid extra money for cleaning but now he is asking money to pay for chocolate stain. If anyone book holiday home with children be aware about the stains. It is better to stay in a hotel rather than wasting money and stressful with these people.

@Nalini20 do you not feel any responsibility for damaging the host's property?

He is asking us to pay a large £450 just for a sofa stain which won't cost that much to clean, that isn't an easy amount to pay for us as a family of 6. We have taken responsibility for it Mike but that amount will leave a massive effect on our family. This is why were struggling to take this damage claim. It's not easy for families like is to pull 450 pounds out of our pocket and pay for him. We've gone so many places and we've never had this money charged to us. This seems greedy as the sofa alone probably costs 450 pounds . Do you make claim like that to people? why don't you mention about the injury that happened to our children? How much is that?

@Nalini20  we haven't seen what you did to the sofa, but this does seem very excessive. was the sofa brand new?

@Helen3 make a reasonable offer to the host to get the sofa cleaned - Perhaps £50-100 would be fair

@Nalini20   aaaaand here's why most of us avoid hosting kids. Do you seriously think a chocolate stain is a standard result of hosting you? yes, you should "be aware of stains" and don't let your kids drink/eat chocolate on the sofa if they are going to make stains! Kids don't make stains on sofas if you only let them eat at the table...

It seems like the host is being greedy, because a chocolate stain can be removed, and there's no way they should be charging to replace the sofa (although how big was the stain?)  Stairs made of plastic seems dubious but if they weren't functioning properly you should have brought that up with the host during your stay, and the attic room apparently has a low ceiling, as they often do, was this disclosed in the listing and photos?  Without seeing the listing we can't know the truth.

You both can be in the wrong at the same time.

I already mentioned who will stay in this house(including kids) why didn't he avoid ? I asked them about why did he charge that much for stain. I told the host about the ceiling hit my kids but he said you have to be aware about it. Nevertheless he didn't mention about the ceiling. If they have kids they will realize about the pain. I went only once upstairs it was scary when we walk on the stairs. If he think sofa will get stain why not put a cover on it? What do you think about the injury happened to my kids? that is not matter but only stain is the matter. Because of the way earning money from people.

Why did you wait until the host tried to claim against you for damaging his sofa to raise the issue of the stairs.

Surely if as you claim your children were constantly hitting their heads you wouldn't have stayed there.

Offer to pay for the sofa to be cleaned and when you stay at someone else's home or holiday let make sure your kids eat at the table.
