Airbnb is telling me, I personally accepted an alternation change of dates which I DID NOT

I have a long term listing.... strict policy... Canada. I have a guest that initially booked to stay 4 months. He is already check in and 2 weeks have past. He decided to cut his trip shorter and leave 29th March. From what I see in future payouts he will only pay until 29th March. -

Airbnb told me that I was sent a request to review the new dates and accepted this. This is false. I got an email that said "Reservation updated" and not the classic one that says XXX "wants to change their reservation".

Below is copy paste from airbnb cancellation policy. Based on b) from my understanding I should be receiving payment for all nights up to 29 March PLUS 30 additional nights.

Can anyone reply with similar experience? I read on REDDIT many people had similar experience where airbnb accepted the alterations on their behalf. Im guessing this is to protect the guest and avoid them paying 30 additional nights as a penalty. Pls HELP!

Long-term cancellation policies for monthly stays
Your long-term cancellation policy applies to monthly stays, which are reservations of 28 or more consecutive nights. You can choose one of the following long-term cancellation policies:

Strict
a)To receive a full refund, guests must cancel within 48 hours of booking, and the cancellation must occur at least 28 days before check-in
b) If a guest cancels after that, you’ll be paid 100% for the nights already spent, plus the next 30 nights from the reservation
c) If fewer than 30 nights remain on the reservation when the guest cancels, you’ll be paid 100% for all of those remaining nights

im replying to my own post because airbnb doesnt have an edit button in their sophisticated  (one would think) platform.

UPDATE: Airbnb informed me just now after speaking with almost 10 different agents prior that their is an article hidden in their site that directly conflicts with their other article under cancellation policy. This is regarding "notice". A new set of rules that should be under the cancellation policy of long term stays but is not. They prefer we waste are time writing messages and calling. Posting to help people. In a nutshell strict policy only applies when a guest wants to leave less than 30 days before check out. If he gives you more than a months notice... consider yourself super lucky! (ironically)

Thanks for posting here to help other Hosts.

Yes, this is a risk when Hosting monthly stays. Some reservations can be altered automatically without Host approval as you discovered. As you discovered, most Airbnb CS are poorly trained and don't understand how the platform works. What is really disturbing, is to have them tell you that you approved this, when it is an automated feature of monthly stays that benefits the Guest; not the Host. Essentially you blocked your calendar for this 4month stay and couldn't accept other bookings. This guest then shortened the stay automatically, and you now have those dates to fill.

Monthly stays can be great for Hosts, but there are also alot of pitfalls. Here is a Guide on with information on that:

Yes I think the most stressful thing for me was that the didn’t believe me when I said “I did not accept this”. That shows lack of respect, empathy etc. Just very harsh indirectly implying that I was essentially crazy. Here in Toronto I’m not allowed to do short term rental to the basement. That’s why I have to continue long term 28+ days. Thanks for your reply.
