Cannot open date because of a check out restriction on the date when the next airbnb booking starts

Hi, I am trying to open 3 days between bookings (for a Tuesday to Friday).  The Friday has an airbnb booking starting, for which I had adjusted the dates to match the client's request (normally I take 7 day bookings from Sunday to Sunday).  The calendar won't let me open up Thursday night because Friday has a check out restriction, but I can't clear the restriction because it has an airbnb booking on it.  How do I get around this ?

thanks

Andrew

Hi @Andrew3735

This has driven me crazy before. You can't edit the multi-calendar once there's a booking on the date that you need to edit. I'll follow this thread in the hope that someone has an answer.

The last time this happened to me, my solution was to take a direct booking for the night that wasn't bookable on Airbnb!

Thanks for confirming it is not just me !  Let's see if anyone has a solution !

Hello @Andrew3735

I'm presuming you haven't got any other restrictions in place like a preparation time in between bookings.

Have you tried creating a new rule set for these three days?  Any restriction in place for that Thursday night will show up on the right hand side of the multi calendar when you select the dates but you may be able to render it available by clicking on the option "available" to apply the new rule set.

Worth a bash! 🤞

Thanks for your reply.  No other restrictions.  Yes I've tried creating a new rule, and I can take two days bookings, but the problem with 3 day bookings comes about because I can't change the pre-existing checkout restriction on the Friday checkout date because there is an Airbnb booking starting on that day.  (e.g., if I manually add one more day to the rule without the restriction, it just shows me the booking and doesn't do anything).  So it won't let checkouts happen on the Friday and there doesn't seem to be anyway of changing it (as far as I can find).

Hello again @Andrew3735

I feared as much😞  OK well it just leaves me to tag our whizz kid @Joan2709 who is an expert on professional tools😝  If she can't fix it then no-one can!

@Andrew3735

I'm not sure I fully understand what is happening...it seems like @Shelley159 does. I usually do better by seeing the actual issue visually rather than someone writing out the issue. Not sure I can help, but if you want to go thru the effort I can try?

If the reservation is a Friday Check-in, then not sure there is anything you can do but accept a 2day booking Tues-Thurs, as the Friday Reservation Check-in prevents you from adding a Rule Set? If your Friday Check-in/Out restriction is on the default calendar, not sure there is anything you can do other than "backwards engineer" which would be alot of work.

You would have to change your default settings to allow Friday Check-out for the entire calendar (sounds like you don't want to do this) until the dates in question are past. You would then have to apply a Rule set to block Friday Check-out/Check-in to every Friday on your open calendar to prevent someone from booking those. Once the dates are past, you can return all your original default settings to the calendar and remove your temporary Friday check-in/checkout Rule sets.

.

How were you able to adjust the dates for the Guest to check-in on a Friday Instead of Sun-Sun? Did you remove your check-in/check-out Sun-Sun settings?

@Joelle43

Thanks for the tag Joelle (I think 🤣)

Hi there @Joan2709, thanks for looking into it, as always!😀

I don't have an active problem with this to show you, but I can give you a summary of the issue so long.

@Andrew3735 does same-day changeovers, no preparation time. He wants to get booked every night, but the rule set of one date can affect the availability of the dates around it.

On the Friday and the days following it, he has a rule that (among other restrictions) says no checking out on any of those days.  Someone has now booked a number of nights starting from that Friday. All good, but in the process the Thursday before the Friday has become blocked on the calendar as well. When he tries to free it up, the calendar says he can't because if a guest books the Thursday night, the guest won't be able to check out.

The only way to allow the guest to check out, is to remove the rule from the Friday onwards, but once a booking is in place, you can't remove the rule for those dates anymore.

You can verify this by going to a multi-calendar where there's a rule on the same dates as a booking. When you click it, you only get the booking coming up. There's no way you can access the rule to change or remove it once the nights are booked.

To fix this, Airbnb must either allow us to access the rules of dates that are already booked so we can manually change or remove the rule, or (even better) tell the calendar to ignore the rules of dates that are already booked.

Hope it makes sense, it's a confusing one!

While typing this, I thought of a solution that one could try, but it's not a great one:

One can go directly to the rule set and edit it so that it allows check-out on Fridays. In theory, this should change that rule everywhere on the calendar, including (hopefully) where it's stuck under an existing booking.

If it works, it solves the problem and you should be able to open the Thursday for bookings, but you will unfortunately have every Friday on your calendar available for check-out (which, as I understand, is something Andrew doesn't want). So you'll have to create and apply a new rule for all the other Fridays ...

A very long fix (if it is one!) for a very silly problem.
