SMS notifications have stopped working.

SMS notifications have stopped working.

Hello dear hosts, administrators and moderators of the forum. When I have a problem and can't get help from cs , I ask a question here. I usually get more attention and support from users of this forum. Our collective knowledge through experience is a power that should be used by the AirBnB platform to help each other. @Joan2709 , @Helen3 , @Joelle43 , @Shelley159

Sorry for the long introduction, now to the point. As in the title: SMS notifications are not working for me. All SMS notification settings were not changed. I received the last SMS notification on 03.03.2025. I had such situations a few times before, it seems to me that after AirBnB application updates. Then after updating on my mobile device + logging out / logging in the problem disappeared, unfortunately now it doesn't. The support department is working on ....
Has anyone had a similar problem, or can someone help me?

I found a similar topic, unfortunately without a solution.

I'm hastening to report that since yesterday, I've been receiving text message notifications from guests, and I can also log in to the "earnings" section. I haven't received any information about how the engineers and specialists fixed this problem. I haven't received any instructions on what to change in my settings. I haven't done anything on my part, so the conclusion must be that this bug was the app's fault. I'm happy... I hope the next version doesn't spoil my joy.

Hi @Marcin65 👋

I'm sorry to read that you're still having issues. I wondered if you have enabled 'push notifications' on your account? If so, this would override the SMS feature.

I'd like to check all bases before I contact the Airbnb team.  I wondered if you've updated recently, and if you've attempted the troubleshooting steps below?

  • Log out (on all affected devices/browsers)
  • Close all browser windows/tabs (on all affected devices/browsers)
  • Open ONE new window (on all affected devices/browsers)
  • Clear cache and cookies and browser history (on all affected devices/browsers)
  • Delete & re-install app (if applicable)
  • Log in with email associated with your Airbnb account

Could you also confirm which system your device is using - iOS or Android please and if the issue is intermittent or constant?

Looking forward to hearing form you.

Thanks for the response, @Rebecca . I've tried various methods. I've reinstalled the app on my smartphone, cleared my browser, logged out of all my devices, and logged in on only one. SMS notifications with the two-steps authentication code for the earnings section arrive when I try to log in on my smartphone, but not when I log in on my laptop. I don't receive notifications about incoming messages from guests, reservations, or requests (maybe 1 SMS in 20 messages - random).

Please let me know if PUSH notifications can interfere with receiving SMS messages? CS previously asked me to enable all PUSH notifications...

I use Win 10 and mozilla firefox browser on my laptop, and android on my smartphone.

Thanks for your help.

Marcin

Hi @Marcin65 👋

If push notifications are active, this will skip the SMS notifications for acceptance and messages of reservations.

I will check back in with the team re the 2 factor authentication and get back to you!

I did see Airbnb was trying to automatically remove SMS msgs from my notification settings a few months ago and this made me very angry. I kept changing my settings back to all (3) notification types. This is all a result of Airbnb changing the sound notification alert in the App to something barely audible that many Hosts have complained about to no avail. I want ALL the notification alerts possible so as not to miss guest messages.

So now it appears Airbnb is not allowing Hosts to choose push, text and email notifications anymore? Really? After they created the problem to begin with by changing the App notification tones? You can see the Notifications section doesn't show options for push notifications now and the email option is now greyed-out? Many Hosts may not even aware that Airbnb had changed their Notification settings without their knowledge I'm guessing.

C'mon! Is this another cost-saving measure implemented without notifying Hosts? Yet Hosts are penalized for not responding quickly enough to guest messages?

This is what it looked like previously:

****UPDATE

i was not correct about my current settings - on the desktop, email is greyed out, but SMS is showing.

In the App, all (3) options ARE showing (this makes sense, duh).

@Marcin65 should be able to choose all 3 notification options not have text notifications removed if push is also chosen (at least in the US). Airbnb may have changed options for notifications in other countries:

Hi everyone, I have tried to talk to countless of support members from airbnb in the last 7 days and no one can help so i am hoping someone has had a similar issue and found a solution.

The issue is that i am trying to set up my 2 step verification by getting a phone call or sms sent to my phone, it doesnt send anything to me no matter how many times i try, or try with different numbers. Ive now tried 8 different phone numbers (from friends and family) who all have different providers and no matter what, the 4 digit code is not being sent out. My house is listed and ready to be rented during my holiday, but i cannot set up my payouts because of this issue, and all airbnb says it may be a bug and just tell me to try a different number so they are of no help.

thank you so much in advance!

@Eva4274

Sometimes the system has issues if you are on a public WiFi. Try doing it at home on your own internet. If that doesn't work, turn off WiFi calling and use cellular service.

I've been having this issue on and off for a few years.
Living in a poor mobile internet signal area I rely on the SMS messages to let me know I've been messaged.
I'm currently chatting to support about it...again because the SMS messages have stopped for about a week now but they don't have the answers.

Perhaps Airbnb haven't paid the bill to their SMS provider?!

So I've checked the Notifications settings again...reinstalled the app again.

I get Airbnb sign-on security SMS messages from airbnb instantly, so why not other messages from the site? It must be their server just not sending them?
I did once have an issue where my phone was marking the Airbnb SMS messages as spam and I found them in a spam folder but I've had spam filtering switched off for ages because of that.
