Scam

Scam

Hi

Yesterday, my daughter was scammed into buying some AirBNB gift cards, she thought for her boss.  As it turned out, it was a scam email sounding very convincing and genuine.  By the time she realised it was a scam, she had already bought the cards, scratched them and given the codes to 'the boss' (obviously scammer).  As soon as she realised what had happened on confirming with her boss, she had sone as he said, he obviously denied all kowledge and got straight on to the phone to AirBNB to get the codes cancelled.

Does this mean, if the codes are cancelled, the host won't get paid and my daughter can claim back her funds she used to buy those codes?

Hi @Tanya906

I'm really sorry your daughter found herself in this situation - to help avoid this in the future, the advice in this article might be useful: How to check if an Airbnb email or website is authentic

Has your daughter asked the Airbnb Support team how they could help, or talked to her bank perhaps?

Let us know how things evolve please!

Thanks,

Emilie

Was the email from Airbnb? @Tanya906

I would suggest your daughter contacts the police .

this is a community for hosts and guests so it would be best for your daughter to to contact Airbnb Customer Services.

if your daughter sent money to a scammer Airbnb won't have your daughters company's money the scammer will so I am not sure there will be anything they can do.
