So we have some guests that have been staying at our place for three weeks now, and they are supposed to check out in a few days. We’ve had some issues with them like them keeping the AC at 55° With the windows open, setting off the smoke alarms (we think they were smoking), not taking the trash to the curb and it piling by the side of the house, but because I just had surgery and we are busy with that, we figured we would just deal with whatever once they moved out.
Well, today my husband got a call from Airbnb saying that our guests are being told to vacate today. They wouldn’t say anything other than they violated Airbnb rules. We are super curious what that is! We are glad that Airbnb is looking out for our best interest (hopefully), but we’re not sure what would cause them to kick our guests out 3 weeks after they’ve already been staying. And we never turned them in for what we thought was a violation of our rules. We’re also worried that the guests are upset and are going to trash our place thinking that we are the ones that turned them in.
Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Anybody with a similar issue?
Unless Airbnb is into mental telepathy, they are not aware of what you are thinking so this must be something between guests and Airbnb. Since you are the host, you do deserve some explanation however.
@Jessica2839 This happens a lot. Since you haven't reported your guests' behavior to Airbnb yourself, their action can't possibly have anything to do with your house rules. Honestly, Airbnb doesn't actually care about hosts' rules, and they won't enforce them at this level.
It's their policy to not disclose the details of actions taken against one member to another, but some of the common reasons that they will abruptly terminate a stay like this are:
a) a recent prior host has reported them for misconduct
b) their payment method or ID has turned out to be fraudulent
c) they've been flagged in an automated background or sex offenders' check
d) their identity is affiliated with a hate group (e.g. Proud Boys, KKK, etc)
e) the algorithm is much more sophisticated than we imagined and actually has a pretty sharp Douchebag Detector
It also happens all the time that accounts get suspended, with bookings cancelled, for both guests and hosts for no reason but a stupid glitch or a bogus complaint. Airbnb does not have a skilled triage system for that, and people take heartbreaking losses as a result. But considering how horribly these guests have behaved (really, sounds more like they're running an amateur meth lab than just smoking) I don't think there's any accident here. You need to use whatever means are legally at your disposal to force them from your home immediately and start documenting the damage that's already been done.
@Jessica2839 @Anonymous
Or perhaps neighbours reported them for a party/noise/harassment/some kind of illegal activity.
We can always rely on @Anonymous interesting to say the least,
It seems that Airbnb do back ground checks on people maybe just in America, I saw a post recently about a guy who get banned from airbnb because of a DUI, In America is that a criminal conviction, sorry Im from Thailand I dont know, maybe its something along them lines,
Also it seems Airbnb might be helping you out here, Nice one to Airbnb you have to say,
Keep us informed I am interested to know how it works out,
@Sudsrung0 That's definitely the optimistic viewpoint!
I think if AIrbnb were truly helping the hosts out here, they would inform them in a bit more detail about whether and how their safety was endangered, and pass on enough information that they could use to get law enforcement on the right track. Instead, they're leaving the host totally in the dark about whether the guest is a serial killer or just has a bad credit card, because at the end of the day their only concern is how it's going to affect their brand and their profits.
It's great when your interests dovetail with those of the corporation, but please get these people out of your home and don't make any assumptions that this company is actually looking after you and your safety!
Hi @Jessica2839
I just thought I'd check in and make sure that the check-out with your guests went ok. Please feel free to come back and let us know.
