ever been asked to pay utilities after deposit was paid?

My son is looking for an AIRBNB in Vienna this summer while he does an internship with the UN. He found a place and put a deposit down and then the owner said he must pay utilities (water and electric). I have never been asked to pay that and I did not see this on the listing and he was only informed once the deposit was paid. Has anyone else experienced this?

@Pedro1740 How was the deposit paid? Airbnb does sometimes split the payment but there is not a deposit.

Assuming it was a split payment then he can call Airbnb and ask them to either cancel the booking as the host cannot charge for things not mentioned in the listing or ask them to persuade the host to honour the booking properly.
