@Kris5394 Simple answer is you can't. Tell the guest all payments and payment schedules are determined by Airbnb and the host cannot change these.

I would add that these people may be worth avoiding if they can't pay when Airbnb require them to. Equally they could be lovely people of course.

Hey @Kris5394

Thank you so much for sharing your situation with us. I hope your week is off to a great start. Have you been able to connect with your guests since then? I hope that Mike and Jane’s answers have helped you better understand the situation.

Best,

Alex

Yup...I have already had guests ask me if they can change the payment dates and of course, as @Mike-And-Jane0 state, Hosts have no control over this, but guests seem to think we do.

Airbnb is offering several different options now for payment depending on how far out the reservation is made and the dollar amount. Klarna has been around for awhile I think? Other options include some interest free options like Pay Part Now, Pay Part Later thru Airbnb and some through Klarna. Some through Klarna the guest will have to pay interest. Some are just pay all now, or pay all later date. Of course, the Host community was not informed of this major change by Airbnb (as with other major changes), so we were surprised by these questions from guests. 🙄

Careful About Asking Guests to Withdraw Request to Book

I will say be careful about having guests withdraw a request to book now because they had the wrong dates or wrong number of guests. Since this change went into effect, if the guest tried using Klarna and they withdraw the request, Klarna still puts a hold on the guest funds in their bank account even though no booking took place. It took multiple calls to Airbnb by both myself and the guest (we weren both given all wrong answers by Airbnb BTW) and then the hold was lifted after 24hours and the guest was finally able to send a new request. The guest and I were told it takes 7-10 business days for Klarna to lift a hold. Wrong. That is only the case if the trip was cancelled.

If the primary booker has the wrong number of guests, I would just accept and then change after the booking is confirmed. Keep in mind if you have addl guest fees, and the primary booker doesn't have enough funds to cover the amount due if using Klarna, I'm not sure what happens on that?

If the dates are wrong, as long as you have the new dates available, then I would let the booking take place and alter after the fact modify the reservation. Otherwise, you may run into the same issue if the guest chose Klarna at checkout. Hosts have no way of knowing the method of payment unless the guest advises you.
