Grill

Hello all, do you provide a grill and if so, what kind: electric, gas or charcoal? Any pros and cons of the specific grill types you can share?

@Inna22 Propane only! I supply the grill with propane attached and have an extra full tank for back up. It is one more thing to clean, but our guests definitely expect it and use it.

Not necessarily of you do not want to provide a BBQ. Factor the clean up of a grill into your cleaning costs if you do.

I don't have a stove inside, so I provide a good-sized gas BBQ outside along with the tools and sauce necessary. Propane is good too. Charcoal makes a mess for both parties involved and can be a fire hazard if not doused after use. Much easier to turn off a switch or dial.

Happy hosting

@Inna22 I have a gas grill l. In Florida there are pests and they tend to invade the grill because of the fat drippings and food scraps that accumulate. Even with good cleaning they will try to come and leave their droppings and so no I place the grill in the garage. The guests have option to take it in the driveway if they want to use it .

Cleaning is a big problem and when you have guests coming the same day one is checking out it takes time. I took it out of the lanai because pests will enter the lanai by making holes in the screen cover.

We do not provide a grill since the only place to put it is on the wood deck located in a screened in porch. Which would be against fire code.

Hi there

we do provide a grill. It is a gas one. We ask that guests clean it after use - this doesn’t always happen. We also ask that if they finish the gas bottle to fill it out of consideration for next guests. This sometimes does not happen either.

I do offer guests the use of our BBQ although I do now strictly police its use!

It is a propane gas BBQ and although electricity is cheaper to run, propane is more convenient.

Where the policing bit comes in, I had a guest who asked me at 8 am just before he checked-out if he could cook a few sausages on the barbie to take with him. I said to him 'sure you know how to use it' and he assured me he did.

I didn't think any more of it and went about my days tasks. At 11 pm that night I came down from my man-cave and walked through the BBQ area and I suddenly thought.....wow, the barbie is still going'!!

This goose had cooked his snags wrapped them up in something and just left, leaving the BBQ running!

Guests are just environment vandals when it comes to energy usage, they just don't give a 'proverbial'! That one guest cost me a gas cylinder refill, so now I have a timer on the gas bottle! After 20 minutes it will automatically shut off......If they want to use it I have to start it for them.

As far as cleaning and maintenance is concerned I use a BBQ mat. I will not cook anything on the barbie without using the mat. ......

It's not just that is far easier to clean than a heavy hotplate! You just put in it hot soapy water for 30 seconds, give a brush and a rinse, and it's clean.

But I also do it for hygiene/health reasons! You have absolutely no idea what else has dined on your hotplate after you have used it, from rats, mice, cockroaches other creepy crawlies, so I know using the BBQ mat the plate is perfectly clean! It takes the heat and is good for up to 150 uses.

They only cost a couple of dollars from the local hardware store.....a small price to pay.

Cheers........Rob.
