@Eunice235  Hello! I LOVE guest mode on Roku TV. So convenient. I have the living room TV on guest mode, while in the bedrooms we have a guest login for the TV and setup a guest Netflix account so that we can provide it as a complimentary service. Best of luck!

Thanks it was helpful

Hi @Eunice235

That's very exciting, I'd love to hear how that first booking goes!

It's great that @Angela3989's experience was already so helpful. I wanted to tag in  @John5097@Karen114 and @Bettye6, as I believe they also have Roku set up in their listings. Do you have any more insights to share with Eunice?

Thanks everyone. 🙂

We do use Guest mode however I  am reading in a lot of peer groups that the Roku and guest mode has been having some  bugs, due to a software update on Rokus end.  The TV will turn off and on and log them out and make them log in again.  I haven't heard anythhing from my guests as of yet so hopefully it has been resolved.

My issue is despite it being in guest mode they can download the Spectrum app and make purchases.  This happens several times per year and there's nothing I can do about it according to Spectrum and Roku because we just have streaming and no cable box which can be locked for purchases,  I  just have to call and cancel what they ordered. 😑

Karen

@Karen114 You can set purchases to be restricted via settings in the TV. All purchases then require a password even when in guest mode. Give it a try!

@Angela3989  Thank you!  I was told by Spectrum because I don't have a cable box, just the wifi feature it's not possible to do unless I have a cable box or some other type of equipment.  Will take another look though.

Karen

@Karen114 Interesting! I also have Spectrum and do not have any cable box etc. This is a setting on the TV itself. Has nothing to do w Spectrum. There's a guest there now or I'd look it up for you where the setting is. I believe it might be under Parental Controls? Check that.

Thank you @Angela3989 .  Yes I have a pin on Roku.  This just happened again the other day,  however.... when I got the email from Spectrum stating there were services added to my account, there was a check box to click to confirm.  So that is a good thing and my service was not changed at least as far as I know. I had so many go rounds with Spectrum over this.  I have 7 units all with their own accounts and told them it was ridiculous that a guest could just randomly purchase and they need to button it up. Maybe they took my advice 😁

I just upgraded to the latest Roku streaming stick. The previous one was working but was taking too long to load and the newer one is more responsive.

Can set up parental controls in the settings so guest can't order things. Have to put in a code they don't have.

Funny, last week a guest messaged me to log them out of a few apps and I scrolled though and noticed dozens of previous guest had forgotten to log out of all the apps, Fubu, DTV, Prime, Sling, so went through and logged them all out.

This on Max some of the guest I recognized from years ago! 😂

 Good morning @John5097  Are you not worried the Roku stick will go missing ?

I am still plagued with issues with Spectrum and purchases.  😑

I thought removing myself from automatic billing would help.  Nope they still billed me for services that a guest ordered.

After spending about 2 hours last week on the phone with Spectrum my only remedy is to delete the Spectrum App from all my Tv's.  Can't be done via the back end of Roku.  I need to be at the TV physically.   I was in Florida at the property for almost 3 months doing hurrican repairs and of course have to find this out once I am home 🤣.  I didn't have any guests during the clean up so this didn't arise until I got home lol.

@Karen114

Hi. I was just thinking about your post so I'm glad you asked. I've bad a Roku streaming stick for over 5 years and never had any issues.

I'm not familiar with Spectrum at all. Not even sure what it is?

As I recall there were parental controls on the Roku. Guess don't have the code. I think you mentioned you set that up on yours but I"m not understanding the Spectrum issues.

I provide DTV and Netflix  that is already signed into the app. Parental controls are also set on those as well. If they sign out of the app I would have sign it back in on that TV. And yes would need to be at the TV I think. Although may be able to have guest read back the code on your phone.

So it sounds like you just need to delete that app. Is that what you use and left it signed in for guests?

I recall I made sure the apps I use have parental controls so guest couldn't have option to order anything. I don't think my guest would do that so I'm kind of surprised they did that on yours.

I suppose just ask the cleaners to delete that app. Click "options" in the top right corner on Roku stream and you should see that option to move and delete apps.

Mine is a back apartment so I just let guest use guest mode on the apps I'm subscribed to. That TV is also set up as guest TV. Sometimes they try to log into screen mirroring on their iPhone and I see the code on my TV. I have to turn it off to clear it. I don't know if they see a code on their TV.

@John5097  Spectrum is the internet and cable provider in Florida.  So it's on the TV by default.  I will have my housekeeper delete the Spectrum app on the TVs.

I only subscribe to wifi through Spectrum, not cable.  Now, if I had a cable box and a Spectrum remote, I would have the ability to put a purchase pin on the Spectrum account but since I don't, my only remedy is to delete the app.

I do have pins set up on Roku but that doesn't do anything for Spectrum.  I believe if a guest tries to download the Spectrum app, they will then be asked for the pin through Roku.

@Karen114

That makes sense. It seems like you are always on top of things!

I use ATT fiber optic. It's been the best internet provider. They install everything including the Gateway which is both the router and modem.

There isn't any kind of option for guest to order anything. ATT also owns DTV and that app has option for parental controls where guest can't order anything. So I suppose it's just the Spectrum app that does that.

Anyway glad to hear you recovered from the hurricane and staying on top of things!
