What settings do I need so that this does not happen?
My calendar has a name in a gray box and when I try to see who/what/why, I see the name xxxxx 'null' and a note saying that ZI am awaiting the guest's ID.
I have instant book.
If this is held, there may be a guest who is not incomplete that cannot book.
What is the 'magic' setting that, if turned 'off' (or 'on) will prevent this from happening?
I do. Does not having this verification put me at risk?
I'm afraid this isn't the fix you're hoping for @Robert6. I have this but still have the 'awaiting verification' black (grey) outs while they stumble through this. Not sure what 'risk' you mention tho?
@Robert6 @Gordon0 I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that clicking that box meant that all guests need to go through Airbnb verification. If unchecked, then anyone can quickly book your listing without any ID needed (so no calendar hold.) But yes, you do open yourself up to the risk of "unverified" guests.
As far as Airbnb blocking your calendar while the "verification" is performed, there is nothing you can do about that. That is Airbnb's standard process.
They do, @Emilia42, but that verification (at least in my experience) can take place after they've blocked your dates.
I’m thinking that without actually verified ID I am allowing into my home someone who literally is known to Airbnb with only a phone number for example.
But are you saying that without verified ID checked off there still can be a gray-boxed guest?
@Robert6 This is the most annoying feature!!! I've complained several times to customer service. I don't understand why a guest's payment method isn't charged at time of booking. Amazon doesn't let me order anything without paying for it first!
They supposedly have 24 hours to remedy the problem then your calendar is opened.
