Hello Everyone!
So great to connect.
Going through this journey, many times as a host, one can only figure things out from 1/ trial and (mostly) error;
2/ guests' honest and constructive feedback and /3 or own observation.
Without overwhelming our guests, I found it very helpful to "tweak" house rules both for my safety and reassurance, as well as for my guests- it's transparency 101.
Your thoughts: have you had to change your house rules or at least modify, and what caused you to make that decision?
Ever- learning and thank you!

Hallo Bathsheba,
welcome to the platform. It’s a space for learning and sharing experiences.
Yes rules can be modified to accommodate both hosts and guests from case to case.
depending on your area, some accept pets and some don’t.
House rues are not fixed,
hope you find this helpful.
best wishes
Hello @Naomi208
Thank you for sharing. My address is Bathsheba; my name is Lana (my Airbnb designation is @Lana1222).
My post was basically asking fellow hosts to share what they found helpful and what circumstances caused them to adjust their house rules.
We all have differing climates, but some things are common to hosting and we all grow when we share our experiences.
Have a great day!

Hi @Lana1222 ,
Welcome and good luck with it all!
Yes, we update and tweak our house rules regularly.
The catalyst is usually an experience with a guest that leads to considering an update, or an addition, or rephrasing something. For example, we had a few AIRBNB guests in a row who arrived here with multiple smokers (like 4 adults and more) and so to miss our 'no smoking premises' with our guidance in our house rule seemed a bit absurd, but we updated our content anyway to help avoid this scenario. It isn't good for either side.
For us, we have some specific issues associated with our short term rental permit and so ensuring these items are adhered to is of particular importance. We have regulations for parking, noise, occupancy, among other things and so making sure we keep/maintain our permit is top of mind for us.
Each guest offers a new perspective or take on how they are consuming our information and so we tweak everything based on our experience (photos, captions, content, house rules, our Welcome Guide).
And any obvious changes to regulations or items in the house can impact house rules. For us, our area has been updating regulations on fires in a firepit so this is immediately reflected in our materials (including house rules). Another example, we added a locked shed in our yard and this updated was added to our house rules as a no guest access area.
