Scam alert! How can I make sure a listing is real?

This will be my first time using Airbnb so I'm a bit weary about listings being fake.

What can I do to make sure a listing is real and not a scam?

What should I be looking out for?

Thanks

Welcome to Airbnb!

Here are a few things you can do to make sure the listing is real:

(1) Look at the reviews and make sure they seem to talk about the same place you are booking

(2) If the listing says anything about contacting the host outside of Airbnb before booking, DO NOT - this is a well-known scam.

(3) Look at the listing - if it seems "too good to be true" (aka luxurious penthouse for a super low rate) it probably is!

@Maria3671 it is on the official Airbnb website so we can't tell for sure, it seems like it's a new host. You could contact him and decide after you communicate and ask about any doubts you might have.

Hmm yeah it looks sketchy.

https://abnb.me/VnbKLf7dLY this can't be real, right? Super cheap for Innsbruck from what I've seen.

Hello everyone, I'm not sure about this one because it has no reviews. Could you let me know what you think?

Hi can anyone help me determine the legitamcy of this host and house? Everything seems legit but the reviews are only since May 2019 while the host has been hosting since 2016.

@Michael3380 she might have joined Airbnb for traveling or whatever reason in 2016 and decided to add a listing in 2019, there is nothing weird about that. The listing seems nice and she has great reviews. You can communicate with her and decide if you want to book or not.

Hi , can I get everyones opinion on the following airbnb? She has no reviews and has 2 postings saying different rooms/beds, but the same photos. I'm unsure of what to do since I need a place that can host quite a few people.

Thank you in advance!

I'm a little concerned about this listing -- I've already booked, but the lack of reviews and no response from host yet is concerning..

Anything I should be doing to check before my stay?

@Jon435  Absolutely. If the host is not responding to your messages, contact Airbnb to let them know that and ask them to please try to contact the host for you. If they can't get a response either, I'd suggest you look for another place and ask Airbnb to cancel this reservation for you.

The lack of reviews isn't necessarily any big deal if it's a new host. New hosts and new guests obviously have no reviews yet.
