I haven’t even hosted my first guest yet, but this community already feels like such a meaningful part of my journey. I came here expecting tips about listings and hosting, but instead I found people who genuinely teach with honesty, patience, kindness, and care.
As someone currently pursuing my Master’s in Business Law and International Trade Law, most of my world has always revolved around structure, rights, systems, and responsibilities. Hosting felt like entering an entirely different world one built around warmth, human connection, culture, comfort, and shared experiences.
Over the years, I’ve stayed in many home-like places while traveling, met hosts who became friends, shared stories, meals, recipes, laughter, and memories. Living independently for a long time also taught me something important: sometimes people don’t just search for accommodation, they search for comfort, belonging, peace, and a feeling of home.
That’s the feeling I hope to create someday.
And honestly, this community has already helped shape that dream. Every honest comment, every piece of advice, every thoughtful correction has taught me something valuable. It genuinely feels like learning from people who want to see you grow instead of fail.

My motto is “Strangers are just friends we haven’t met yet”!
I always greet every guest with the view that they are a friend in the making and it subtly changes the dynamic and makes your interactions warmer. The guest feels your empathy.
@Merrydith0, your words felt like a mirror to my own soul. I’ve always believed that our paths cross with others for a reason. Before I even welcomed my first guest, I sat in this quiet space thinking about the people I’ve met during my own travels,
where the host didn’t just give me a key they gave me a seat at their table and a piece of their heart. Those people, the ones who smiled when I was tired and shared a simple meal and guided me when I was lonely became my friends, and my chosen family too. They taught me that a home is not built of bricks, but of the warmth we offer one another.
When my very first guest arrived with her mother, I felt a deep responsibility to pass that light forward. Her mother had a dream to visit Muktinath, a place we call the Lord of Liberation. It is a sacred journey to over 3,700 meters where the air is thin but the spirit is full. Knowing how much this pilgrimage meant to them, I poured my heart into guiding them not just through the logistics of the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara, but all the way into the heights of Mustang.
When they left, and my guest wrote that I had become the 'best friend she never expected,' I realized that my studies in Law provide the structure for my life, but my heart provides the map. Thank you for being such an inspiration, Merrydith. You remind us that when we open our doors with a pure soul, we aren't just hosting; we are walking each other home.

I absolutely agree, @Rebecca! @Kas1644 put it perfectly at the end of the day, we aren't just providing a room; we are guardians of someone’s memories.
For me, making guests feel truly at home at Kiyo's Den starts with the energy of the space. I believe that a home should feel like a sanctuary, so I’ve hand-crafted much of the decor using natural materials like wood and leaves to bring a sense of peace and grounding to the rooms. Beyond the physical space, I think 'home' is a feeling of being cared for. I love preparing traditional, soul-warming meals like a classic Dal Bhat or Himalayan Thukpa for my guests. There is something so pure about sharing a home-cooked meal that breaks down walls and turns 'visitors' into 'family.' It’s those quiet moments of connection over a cup of tea or a shared story that really stay with someone long after they leave.
Estou tendo problemas, na hora de pagar é pernoite individual e estão conseguindo modificar a quantidade de pessoas, me estresso, tenho que sair buscando camas e colchões extras, grupos alugam um quarto e querem e um quer ficar no sofá sem pagar e assim vai. Também estou perdendo reservas porque o aplicativo não permite chocar datas porque pensa que vai alugar a casa inteira, sendo que está claro no meu perfil que alugo quartos individuais.

I'm having problems when it comes time to pay. It's for individual overnight stays, and they're managing to change the number of people, which stresses me out. I have to go looking for extra beds and mattresses; groups rent a room and want to stay on the sofa without paying, and so on. I'm also losing bookings because the app doesn't allow overlapping dates because it thinks I'm renting the whole house, even though it's clear in my profile that I rent individual rooms.
@Preto2 I completely hear your frustration, Carlos. It sounds like you are dealing with the "chaotic" side of hosting right now! It can be so stressful when guests don't respect the boundaries of a space or the headcount. Your motto right now might be "Patience in the face of the unexpected." Dealing with those technical setting issues for individual rooms is a real challenge, but don't let it dim your hosting spirit once you get those settings locked down, that peace will return!

For those tough turnover days, I find my spirit in a simple quote: 'Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.' When the schedule is tight, I focus on the fact that every pillow straightened and every corner cleaned is creating a fresh start for someone’s new adventure. That thought keeps me energized!
@Kok-Soon0 I love that quote from Van Gogh! It perfectly captures the "small things" that make a big difference. Your motto, "Creating a fresh start, one detail at a time," is beautiful. It’s so true when we’re tired on turnover day, remembering that a perfectly straightened pillow is the beginning of someone else's adventure makes all the hard work feel worth it.
