Free Cancellation early charge

I´m in a visa process to Portugal, so I have to book 7 days in a free cancelation host.
However, I have been charged in my credit card. 
I imagine that charge will occur after deadline to free cancellation.

Are my thoughts wrong?

@Andrey146  Your card immediately charged when you place a booking. If you cancel within the free period, the card will be refunded.

If you prefer to not have to pay anything upfront, many listings on Booking.com allow that, but it's not a thing on Airbnb.

You will be charged at time of booking.

When cancelling you will be refunded (if any, depending cancellation policy)

@Andrey146  There is no such thing as a "free cancellation host". The most you can find is one with a  "flexible" cancellation policy but you still need to read the terms of that policy. You can't cancel an hour before check-in and get your money back.

And you will not get the Airbnb service fees back for any cancellation made more than 48 hours after booking.
