Golf Cart Liability

Golf Cart Liability

Do you provide a golf cart/beach chairs/surfboards with your listing?   Airbnb will not give a straight answer about liability coverage for golf carts.   Host protection insurance clearly states it does not cover 'auto' accidents, but no mention of golf carts.

We live in a small beach community and many rental properties out here provide a golf cart for guests to use to get to the beach areas.  We offer this at no additional charge to the guests.

I have considered adding an additional Docu-sign waiver to the check-in for an additional layer of liability coverage.  Regardless I would appreciate any information from the group or additional insights you may have regarding how to best protect myself from liability in this case.

Thank you!

@Andy2275 I would definitely not count on Airbnb to help with this. I rent a golf cart with my cottage, and I have the guest sign a seperate waiver. They also need to show me their driver's licence and proof of insurance.

Thanks for the quick reply!   What proof of insurance do you request?  For their personal auto insurance?

@Andy2275 Yes, exactly. In my specific community, guests are required to have a driver's licence and insurance to operate them.

Hi Alexandra,

I am also considering offering a golf cart for renters to use at my property. Would you be willing to post your waiver here so I don’t need to “reinvent the wheel”? Thanks for considering.

How do you get the form to your renters?  We created an online form through Incognito but can't figure out how to send it to renters since airbnb blocks URLs.

you can use platforms like RightSignature.com or AdobeSign

Hi Alexandra,  We are considering renting our golf cart as an add on to our airbnb.  Could you share information to help me get started?  I'm not sure about insurance and contracts or forms that would protect us.  Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

@Andy2275 you need to check with your own homeowner's/liability insurance provider on their requirements.

@Andy2275  I would add it to your home insurance for STRs for your listing,

Airbnb got back to me and said that you are not covered for liability once a guest leaves your property with any items included in the listing.  That includes bikes, chairs, coolers, snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, surf boards, scooters, golf carts etc.   You are only protected if that accident actually occurred within your property line.   I had to work to get a straight answer and am very surprised this is not made clear to hosts at any point, since many of us provide extras and there is no mention of it anywhere on the platform.

I ask work on the assumption that if they don't say it is covered in their 'guarantee' T&Cs then it's not @Andy2275

I would assume anything outside of the property line wouldn't be covered and that specialist equipment such as golf buggies or anything you use on the water would need to be add to my home insurance for STRs.

We just started renting our electric golf cart to guests.  We got the cart with guests covered thru our home insurance on a rider.  We created a separate contract, have them sign it, then charge the security deposit and the rental fee thru AirBnB.  Once we get the cart back in good condition we refund their security deposit thru AirBnB as well.  Seems to be working good so far.  I have been emailing them the contract but I am in the process of making it a docusign document.

Hi @Scott1342 - I'm just getting started with AirBnB, hoping to list my property by end of the month.  I've been trying to figure out how to send and have a separate contract signed, e.g. via DocuSign.  Have you figured out how to do this?  Don't you need to put the recipient's email in DocuSign? How do you get the renters email address to add to DocuSign?

Any advice is much appreciated!
