@Kathleen361  Unlike other listing sites there is no tax line item. You need to either add them to your nightly rate or list in your rules and description that you will charge them after booking via a request for money. Make sure AirBnB is not already collecting some or all of them though. Here's the link for what they collect in New York.

Letti,

Thank you for your reply.  It was extreamly frustrating to look and look.  Thank you for the link to the areas that Airbnb is collecting from.  I truly appreciate the information.

Or choice #2: Include it in the price, cleaner/simpler. Yes, your price will show being higher, a competitive disadvantage,  but eliminates the need of talking about money when every guest arrive.

Somewhat choice #3: add to the cleaning fee to help offset tax cost.

Fred,

Thank you.  I did think of that and you are right the price will be higher and is a disadvantage but as you stated it is the cleanest way to gather the taxes.  I do wish the Airbnb would consider adding that feature for those areas that are not a part of the collection by them.  Thank you for the advice.

Hello @Kathleen361,

Sorry to hear your frustration over this, it is great that @Letti0 and @Fred13 have given you some helpful tips on this.

I think you will have seen this in the link that Letti shared with you, but just in case you haven't or for any other hosts looking to see whether tax can be collected or needs to be paid, here is a useful article on this in the Airbnb Help Center. To summarise:

  1. Go to Your Listing
  2. Click Manage Listing for the listing you'd like to view
  3. Above your listing photo, click Local laws

If occupancy taxes are being collected and remitted on your behalf, they'll be listed on the page.

Best of luck with it.

Thanks,

Lizzie
