Adjusting number of guests after "trip" has started

Twice now, I have had guests ask to add people to their reservation after 12:00 pm which is technically when their trip starts.
Twice now, when the guest has submitted a request to change the number of people, it won't let me accept the change because the trip has started.

Is it like this for everyone and if so, why? This is incredibly inconvenient to both hosts and guests and really needs to be fixed so we can make those adjustments quickly and easily via the app.
 
Yesterday, I received the request while I was in the middle of Easter dinner. I tried to just accept the request and of course it didn't go through. I was not about to interrupt my dinner with my family to call or message AirBNB at such a time.

Last time this happened, I was busy at work and again, was not available to deal with the issue in a timely manner. 

Both times my guests had to wait for approval before they could bring their extra guests.

@Stephanie365 nope, not that way for me, I've had no problem changing a reservation at any time before or during a reservation. Hope abb gets it fixed for you

The gests wanting to add people to a trip will always have to wait for your approval to do so.

They need to go to My trips, click on change or cancel, click change, make the amend, and submit

You, then, need to approve it.

 

It is not automatic, and it should not be - you have the option to not accept the change, if it is not convenient for you.

 

Hi @Roberta2, that isn't the problem.

When the guest submits a change, I get notification that I need to accept or decline the request. 

When I hit "Accept" I get a pop up message in red saying in essence, "The guest's trip has started so you cannot change the reservation". 

I absolutely agree that both parties must be involved in the change. It just won't let *me* complete the change on my end.

@Stephanie365 will it let You originate the request and the Guest accept??

No, according to Support, the program is set to lock out any changes by either guests or hosts effective at 4 pm Pacific Time.

@Stephanie365  Is the problem an app issue?  No problem for me on the computer.

So according to AirBNB Tech Support, this is how the programming is set up.  Once the trip starts, neither the guest or the host can make adjustments.

This is the message I received:

So after further investigation by our technical team. Reviewing the reservation there isn't a technical issue with this reservation. Guests or Host can submit and accept alterations to change a number of guest until check-in for the reservation. Once check in arrives, we will not be able to make changes to the number of guests.

The guest, [redacted], submitted the alteration request at 12:43 PM PDT to add one guest to the reservation. 
The reservations check in was at 4 PM EDT (1 PM PDT). 
The host would be able to accept this alteration until 1 PM PDT local time.
After that, the reservation would have officially started in our system and would no longer allow the host to accept this change or allow the guest to make this change.

Just want to reassure that we have resolved this question.

This is wrong on so many levels and makes things a huge PITA for us as hosts.



@Stephanie365 don't know what makes it different but I am 100% positive that I have (multiple times) been able to alter items (guest count, total fee, days of stay...) DURING a reservation. That tech support answer is rubbish.
