BIK - Tax on staying in AirBnb lodgings

Hi - I stay away in an AirBnb property anywhere between 2-3 days a week for work. I kow this is not a Tax guidance site but wondered if anyone has had any experience of weather this type of accomodation is based as lodgings as will be liable for PAYE tax (Benefit in kind).  The company pay direct for the accomodation.

It's not clear from the information you provide....

However, if your company requires you to be in a specific location on an adhoc basis and you claim expenses then it is not a benefit in kind.

If you have (in effect) relocated a few days a week to work - but not at the company's request - and they are not paying, then if you have a limited company where you invoice them, you can claim it as an expense on your annual company return.

So it really depends on what the agreement with the company is: you say they pay direct for the accommodation, is this part of your written contract?

Hi - Many thanks for the response.

I live in the North of the UK but have to be in the South which is where my office is. I am PAYE and I rent AirBnb accomodation a few days a week when I have to be here. The AirBnb is booked via my business expense account.

There is no wording in my contract that they will provide accomodation but an agreement that the business will pay for me to be in the office. I'm in the office / AirBnb approx 40% of the working week (30% calender week)  when I average the time out through the year.

Its a minefield, but I only stay in AirBnb's because I cant stand hotels.
