Babies in inappies

We started on airbnb March this year and have been fully booked up to this month we have had several guests with babies, until a week ago the family who stayed had a young child it was walking and talking about 3 ish years old in nappies the family left and we discovered a large wet patch on the sitting room couch, we had guests arriving at 2 pm and had a nightmare 2 hours drying out the sofa and eliminating the smell. The booking form is wrong it says decline up to 2 years it should say "child potty trained" giving us the option to refuse a child that is not clean from nappies. We now refuse children up to 2 years and in fact one of our rules states that children must be potty trained and clean! hopefully no more nightmares! Steve

ps the guest admitted he was aware of the accident when we contacted him and put it in his review he said he wet down the sofa and assumed it was ok however it had gone right through to the base so in fact he made it worse.

our experience is that children nowadays pee in bed until 7-8 y.o.. My friend is working in a kinder garden and she said the same. I think it's because diapers are too good and kids don't feel uncomfortable if they wet themselves.

We hosted about 5-6 families with kids and ALL of them had at least one child who wetted the bed. No one told us anything , even tried to hide it. It's a nightmare if you have same day turnovers as we do.

Waterproof mattress protectors are the must. The best is to have a few of them available in the unit so if the kid pee on one, they can replace it with a new, dry one.

Sofas are very risky. We have a day-bed type of sofa with a waterproof protector on it. The other solutions are waterproof sofas, made out of fabric for outdoors and yachts or eco-leather.

Another solution is not to host kids up to 12  y.o.
