I left my listing on booking instantly not knowing that i didnt fully fill out my requirements, for example adding a cleaning fee. some people booked instantly and they got approved automatically. how do i go about adding that fee to those guests that booked already or canclelling with out getting penalized

You can't, @Kimberly382 . You cannot charge something that was not there when the guest booked. It is up to you to be on top of your fees and calendar. You might want to snooze your listing while you read up and get everything in place. At least take off the Instant Book.

In the meantime, honour this booking. Think of it as a learning curve, and the lost cleaning fee as tuition. 

It does happen to lots of new hosts.

@Kimberly382 I would do as @Lawrene0 says. Don't cancel the booking and you can't add a cleaning fee. It won't change much in the long term if you don't get those few extra dollars but this is a chance to get started on the reviews. We have to pick our battles 🙂 But make sure to read through the official Airbnb website, it has a lot of useful information and make all the changes you feel that you need to your listing.
