Cancelling reservation

Hello,
I’ve worked for one year with Airbnb as a host and I’m really very satisfied.

But now I’m in a very unpleasant situation. I’m chatting and negotiating with my potential guest Ivan (confirmation code WAEF35) for three days. You can probably check our correspondence. I sent him two special offers, one for 8 and other for 7 days. He accepted and confirmed reservation for 7 days and I thought that he made the final decision. But now he still wants to negotiate for a price or change the reservation for another accommodation that more suits his budget.
I read your cancelation policy and I figured out that I’ll be rather punished cancelling him the reservation at this point.

I would like to cancel Ivan’s reservation because I don’t want to host a guest who is in advance unsatisfied with our accommodation or the price he has to pay. But I really don’t feel guilty for this unpleasant situation and I don’t want to pay any penalties or loose my superhost label. I think I did my best. What can I do?

I’ve never been in such a situation and I need your advice.
Best regards, Tanja

You are not speaking to ABB here.

He has made a booking, so end of discussion. He can of course cancel and if he does that then your cancelation conditions come into play.

Do not cancel yourself.

You can ask the guest to cancel. You can offer him a refund, as he will be charged. But do not cancel yourself. By the way, this is not a staffed forum, just hosts like you, so we cannot see correspondence.

Yes, @Tanja0, we are fellow hosts. We are not on staff at Airbnb and we cannot read your correspondence with your guest. Also, in addition to the advice that you should never, ever cancel yourself, also don't expect perfection with Airbnb. You won't be perfect; your guests won't be perfect; the circumstances won't be perfect. Just roll with it.

... and haggling guests are often not the best guests and expect way more than they paid for.
