Cleaning fees

What do people think about cleaning fees. I saw an Airbnb recently where the cleaning fee was more than a  night's stay . Even for two nights some fees are adding a fair amount to the total cost . I do my own cleaning and don't charge a fee. I would prefer to incorporate it in the cost so what people see is the cost apart from Airbnb service fee.

@Diane360 I used to charge a $25 cleaning fee - I do the cleaning myself so set it low because I don't have to pay cleaning fees to a cleaner.

I removed the fee earlier this year as an experiment. My base price is higher than it was with a cleaning fee, but I have incorporated discounts for stays longer than 1 day (some hosts see the cleaning fee as a discount the longer a guest stays with you). I've had the same level of bookings as in previous years, but have been marked 4 stars for value from a couple of guests (but 5 stars overall). I can't be sure if this is because of the higher base rate (the room is actually cheaper than when I added a cleaning fee), or just a couple of guests who don't appreciate what airbnb is about.
