I had someone book my upper empty unit (I live below) for one night.
Joined July 2019 Male heavy set from the looks of his photo. His profile reads exactly:
I am a hand man who travels to help young single mothers in need of some repairs I will only be using spaces I book for eating and sleeping I will never leave a mess or break anything.
I assume he meant he is a handy man.
I feel extremely uncomfortable with this profile. I reported his profile to airbnb and i also asked if they could cancel the reservation and deal with the guest accordingly. I have not heard anything back.
As a female who lives on the property I find this wildly inappropriate and unsafe if I allow him to stay.
What would you do? What should I do?
@Amber279 I personally would choose to host only females. Also you should call Airbnb again and ask them to cancel as soon as possible and penalty free.
I have hosted males before and it’s gone well. I just can’t believe someone would choose to put that in their profile. It’s insane to me.
@Amber279 Airbnb CS is notorious for not responding in a timely fashion. The best thing to do is get yourself on TWITTER and message Airbnbhelp. I am not a fan of social media myself, but I had to do this several times now. Their response time on Twitter is pretty immediate. 😉
Thank you for the advice. I guess I am also wondering if I am “overreacting” about his profile?
@Amber279 His profile seems a bit odd from what you describe. Was this an instant book? If so, just have CS cancel the reservation, telling them that you uncomfortable with it.
I called and they canceled the reservation for me. Then i changes my booking settings to no instant bookings. Yes he was an instant booking.
I also was considering just sending him a message saying something along the lines of how his profile is inappropriate and I would like it if he canceled the reservation. But I also don’t know if that is okay!?
@Amber279 I don't think that is the right way to go. First of all, if he booked more than 48h ago he might loose his service fee, he wouldn't want that. He would also have to wait until you receive the money to give him a refund. He will probably involve Airbnb too so you will have to deal with that. He might also just change his description just to stay. Changing it doesn't change his intentions, you might just anger him and get a bad review. The best thing in my opinion is still contacting Airbnb and having them cancel.
Thank you! I needed to hear this.
