I've been hosting for almost a year and have lived at my present address for 26 years in Quebec Canada. I'm feeling the call to travel and live long term in another country because I want to live a new culture and language. This happened to me when I was 19 years old and I moved from central Canada which is anglophone to the French part of Canada. I am almos 50 years old and feel the call again to move....likely to a Spanish speaking country. I just travelled to San Miguel de allende but Mexico in general is known to be dangerous. I am thinking now of Ecuador or Cost Rica. Did anyone move to another country because Airbnb enabled them to do so?
I think there are quite a few people that use their AirBNB income to travel.
Obviously you would need to pay for a local manager to look after things while you are away.
Do your research on which part of South America would suit your needs - good luck sounds like a lovely adventure.
Thanks very much for your reply Helen, yes I would need someone to take care of the Airbnb people, unless I eventually sold the place. Thanks for the advice to research which place is ideal. The first criteria is fresh coconut water, mangoes, figs and cherimoya - the rest is minor.
Thanks again

People let out their holiday properties, if you are looking at emmigrating then that is a much different issue and you would need to see what the requirements are.
Yes emmigrating is another thing. I may begin wih living half and half. 6 months in my country of citizenship and 6 abraod and just avoid emmigration entirely - at least for a while.
Thank you David!

I live in San Miguel de Allende and can tell you there is nothing dangerous about this location in Mexico or even with travel between here and the north. I´ve done it 11 times in the last 3 years . As with any travel you do or any city you live in you need to be smart and aware of your surroundings. I honestly feel safer here than anywhere else I´ve lived. Now I have been in Mexico on and off for all my life and I do speak fluent spanish but my husband who came from the USA does not. He was concerned but now would have it no other way. He loves living here. There is a huge Airbnb community here and many folks rent their places out while they travel usingg the income they generate to support their travel habits.
I´ve loved being a host here and although I did not move here to do that, I do enjoy it emensly and have meet fabulous people from everywhere. If you wer interested I´d ba happy to share my experiances with you anytime.
Hope you find a place to land that you love.

Hi Deana, I've been meanig to reply sooner. I really appreciate your email. I just spent 2 weeks in San Miguel myself in October and loved it. I'd like to hear about your experiences too. And if you happen to hear of a property that's availabe I think I would be interested. I am looking for something unique even that requires a little bit of work becasue I like renovations.
When I went there I discovered all the "heathy places" I even found a drug store to get B12 shots as well as the fermented juice from the plant that I can't remember the name of but that helps all kinds of health issues. Then the coconut water was the best to have fresh everyday, also grenadine seeds, and lots of fresh salads. I also liked the artisanal culture.
Do you live there year round?
What's your favorite things about the town?
I rode my bike up the hill (forget the name thought - I'm sure you know which hill I mean) and I'm 50 years old.
So many people say San Miguel is the nicest town they ever saw.
Thanks again for emailing, and I would like to hear from you again and how it's going.
Also, I was offered a job to take over a lady's clientale. I do Thai massage and so does she.
San Miguel is a magical place from what people say too. Things just happen, things work out and you never know who you will meet.

Boy, do I feel bad. I so seldom live on the AirBnB community site and somehow, I never seem to get messages that there is a reply to a posting. Please accept my apologies for taking 9 months to get back to you.
How is your search for a new place to live going? I know San Miguel was a thought but I thought it'd be fun to check in and see how you are doing.
I do live in San Miguel full time and I can´t think of any place else I´d like to be. There is so much of everything here. Great food, arts, and classes in almost anything plus the fact that it is in the center of the country makes getting to all the other places a breeze.
We have a thriving community so finding really good healthy food is so easy. I myself am a certified IIN Health coach and love doing that as well as the catered dinners and events I do here on my property. What can't you don in San Miguel is the real question.
I wanted to send you warm holiday greetings and wish you luck and adventure in 2018.
Look me up if you visit San Miguel. I'd be happy to show you around.
