Discrepancy in prices.....As a guest

Discrepancy in prices.....As a guest

Good day, First I will state I've never used this service before, and would like to start.

I have noticed a weird practice that I may or may not understand correctly.

When I view properties I see lots of nice ones that are anywhere from $70 to $120/night which seemingly are all within my price range, this is after selecting my dates to ensure availability by the systems.

SO now is the funky part, I click on various availabile flats that look appealing, when they open up the price has magically gone from the above 70-120 to upwards of $200-300/night.  This doesn't happen to all the options but on numerous it does.

Can anyone explain this to me?

Also a question, is it standard practice to ahve to pay cash for "taxes, fees, and damage deposits" when checking in?

signed,

Soincerly confused

Hi @Jason791

Welcome to Airbnb.

On prices: A few hosts use 'Dynamic Procing'. This means that prices go up with demand.

I would put the dates 1st, so the prices show correctly for available properties.

Please note that, on top of what the host asks for (night rate), Airbnb will put their own fees. The host will not see it and will not get any of that money.

On extra fees: You should pay NOTHING outside Airbnb. Good hosts to not charge that.

Good luck!

It seems if you search for listings from the US (with dates selected) you will see the base price only then when you click on the listings you will see cleaning fee, extra guests fee and service fee added to the base price (at least that's what I've heard here on the forum)

EU forbid such bad business practice so when I am searching from EU,  I can see the average price / per night with all those extras included.

security deposit is not paid immediately but only if damage occurs and your host file a damage claim.

As far as I know, all payments should go through Airbnb, not in cash.

Unfortunately this was for properries in the EU.

for instance I look for a specific 2 week period to stay in Barcelona, the listings come up with many optoins.  I use the price to limit in my range to still many options.

I start looking at these options and the places are Beautiful and showing prices of a meer $70-100/night....

I decide to click on them and get "updated" pricing on the places that is more then tripple the initial nightly rate, this is NOT including all the extras Airbnb, clean, etc, but the very first line of the "Book Now" estimated cost.

I'm guessing this is a tactic that Airbnb is using to increase sales, bait with a stupid low price to start then hammer you with a high price when you already decided to stay there.....

One option I encountered was a nice complete flat, listed in the middle of town for $69/night.  Click on it thinking I found my spot and when it loads up, the price has risen to $344/night without chaning anything.

I'm assuming this is Airbnb attempting to increase rates and therefore increase their revenues....

@Jason791

never mind it is Barcelona but YOU are in US so it may be that you see it different then I do.

But important is - you have to choose dates and number of guests in your group and then start your search.

Look at my listing and tell me what do you see before and after you click on my listing.  https://hr.airbnb.com/rooms/13526118?adults=4&check_in=2019-02-15&check_out=2019-02-17&guests=1&disp...

This is how I see it:

Dates chosen: February 15-17

Guests : 4 adults

Price shown in search results is = 87€ / night x 2 nights = 174 €

When I click on the listing I will see price breakdown (click on the questionmark) and the total is 174€ , the same as the search result

( extra guest fee is 10€ / night for every extra guest above 2 )
