Dog bit.

Hello everyone. I am looking for advice on the following: You book into an Air BNB for 3 nights. (My 80yo mum and me, i'm 53)  It is a seperate home on a large property. They know you have a dog, its no worries and is welcome to stay. You arrive and find two other adorable Australian Cattle Dogs. The property is huge, lots of areas to keep the dogs easily separated. When you arrive you are greeted by the owner who tells you that the bitch has just come out of heat so her dogs MIGHT start a fight. You tell them that your dog is also a bit of a fighter at times. The MALE dogs are introduced off leash and everything seems fine. Meanwhile, in the kitchen of the Air BNB your mother is talking to the OTHER owner of the property who is standing at the back door with the FEMALE dog. Your mother invites the property owner inside saying, "your dog is welcome to come in" The dog runs in and runs out the front. The property owner is fine with this and so are you. A frisbee is thrown and a fight starts. Nothing serious, the owner of the Air BNB IMMEDIATELY says, "sorry, my dog would have started that" You then say, well, it could EASILY have been my dog but all is good. The dogs are separated and only then does the owner of the Air BNB tell you that your dog can have the front while theirs stay in the back paddock. NOTHING else is said (this is Thursday). On Saturday at 12 noon you get a message from the Air BNB owners saying, "There is a vet bill that needs to be discussed". I message back saying that this is the first I have heard of it and that I am surprised as they clearly admitted fault in front of both my mum and I. We chat back and forth and in the end I ask them to please contact my lawyers if they wish to take this any further. We get home to discover we have left a bag in the bedroom. They refuse to answer my messages. What is the community thoughts on this please? This happened in Wanaka, New Zealand. Love and blessings to you all. Peace. x

Tell the host they need to submit the bill as a claim through AirBnB.  Never settle up any claim for damages, etc. outside of AirBnB.  Hosts are covered by an AirBnB insurance policy that covers damages, etc.  NEVER engage in any transaction outside of the AirBnB app.

@Gina338  And as far as the bag goes, contact Airbnb, tell them you accidentally left a bag behind and that the owner is refusing to answer your messages. Deal with that as a separate issue, don't mention the vet bill. Wait to see if they submit a request for the vet bill through Airbnb platform, if not, you can forget about that part, or deal with it if and when they do. They can't keep your bag just because they want you to pay a vet bill. And if you want the bag back, I assume you've offered to pay for shipping, as that part isn't the host's fault.

BTW, I think their behavior was bad- acting likie everythings okay re the dogs, then springing that on you.

I think that you will find that the guarantee dioes not cover any sort of pet damage.
