Extenuating circumstances with room

Had a fantastic stay in Florence, and to be absolutely honest, it was a perfect stay. However, the end of our trip ended in disaster! Our host requested we take out the trash before we leave (no problem) and we had a train at 8:52 am so we gave ourself plenty of time and decided to take the trash at 7:35 (1 hour 20 minutes before our train). Went to unlock the door and BAM, key snapped in half! Long story short, our host took over an hour to respond to our SOS calls, and it took 2 hours to get out of our room so we clearly missed our train. The question is, would the host be on the hook for the re-booking of our train? I know it’s crazy circumstances, but she had to call the building manager for us since she doesn’t even stay near enough to open the room herself. I feel as if she should be, since it took so long to get a response and get our problem resolved, and we gave ourselves plenty of time to get to the train station. A request for reimbursement was made, but will that be enough? Thank you!

 

p.s. the walk to the train station was 18 minutes from our place, so we wanted to have an hour to settle in and be extra early!

Already worked through the resolution center, now we just have to wait until she responds! Or after 72 hours, hopefully we can plead our case. Thank you for your response!
