We recently had an cleanliness issue with a guest. The toilet required VERY VERY heavy cleaning after he visited it daily for his 5 day STAY.
To date we have never experienced this level of not caring. If it were I leaving the “mess” I would use the brush next to the toilet and do my best to clean up after myself.
If this were to happen again to this extreme I may ask the guest to clean up after themselves. Any suggestions on how you might handle this?
I would have a conversation with the guest at check out and tell him that leaving the place in this condition, wasn't acceptable. I would check if anything was broken and charge him for this, plus an extra cleaning fee. 9 out of 10 times I call my guests out on broken items or extremely dirty apartments, they agree to pay. Very rarely do I have to fight them to pay up.
Hi, I just had my third lot of guests and now need to leave a review for their 4 night stay.
The toilet was dirty, althought there is a very nice toilet brush next to it.
They left about 4 uncleaned glasses but otherwise all good. I would normally give them some grace but not sure how honest to be with the star rating. I personally would leave my dishes cleaned and returned to where they came from. I would hope I would notice the toilet and clean it before departure.
It's gross but I kind of think that it's part and parcel of hosting.
we are satisfied if our guests don't make any damage , don't leave a big mess and do not stain/wet the mattrasses or sofa (anything what can not be fixed or cleaned in 2 hour time or need extra cost)
We are very happy and gratefull if they leave the place clean.
You can clean it and leave a review , something like "he left the bathroom very dirty" or something like that , give him 1 star for cleanless and go on.
You could photograph it and ask for extra cleaning fee through the resolution center but your guest may not agree to pay and leave you a bad review. Or he may pay. You never know.
Some people are messier than other people (and some more oblivious to their mess than others) - kinda comes with the territory of being a host. You can either talk to the guest about it (which would be awkward IMO) or you can just say something in the review afterward.
My latest guests who were renting the little house for eight days gave me a 4 star rating because the floors, carpets and odours were not up to "their" standards. Who are these people who think that brand new kitchen floor, brand new carpets throughout and total new bathroom is not clean enough, and especially bothersome to me as a host because I USE BLEACH TO STERILIZE every corner of that little house. I spend a lot of time on the little details and corners.
Well let me also say that this guest, although the house was tidy and clean at first glance, used every linen in the house. ..and let me know that she did all of the laundry before leaving. When I went in to clean, the washer and dryer were going. I opened the dryer to find three queen sets of sheets with four large bath towels, kitchen towels, bathmats, half dz washcloths, half doz hand towels. Was there room in that wash load for water???? How much soap did she use???
I stopped the washer to find two king size plus blankets, YES both blankets, four more bath sheets, another bath mat, more hand towels and...another set of queen bed sheet set , single bed sheet sets and a douvet cover. OMG was there room for water??? It was all I could do to pullout the blankets first and then all the sheets and towels. I redid the laundry and it took nine...yes 9 large loads. I still cant figure how they got everything in the wash machine.
This guest complained on cleanliness. At the onset I mentioned to her that the dehumidifier must be left on and if she didnt mind, I would come in through the day and make sure the unit was emptied of the water. This little house is almost 200 years old and has a stone foundation...which brings excess moisture to a basement plus....it has been a very wet and rainy season! HELLO????? She complained about the "dirty" mud room floor. Sorry but that isnt dirt of rather an inconsiderate guest who smoked and burned the floor in a few spots. (little small black spots that DONT wash off). ITS A MUD ROOM for crying outloud. and I bleach that floor daily.
I contacted the guests day four into their stay(eight day stay) and said I would like to come in and change the linens and vacuum and clean the floors as I do that routinely for extended staying guests to which she replied, "take a day off...dont worry today". I suspect that one of her kids was wetting the bed and I found the bed pads washed, still wet and draped over the painted wood dining room table and chairs. I also found an unusual stain on the kitchen wall under the breakfast counter. It looked like a glass of liquid 'something' thrown at the wall that dripped 10" wide from just under the counter to the floor. The light grey walls are now stained as well as the baseboard. I have to repaint this area and questioning what this could be...and how it got "thrown on the wall... and under the counter". I suspect it is Milk???? It wont wash off, even with bleach, dish detergent or CLR staining even the semi gloss paint???
And so I get a 4 star review with a comment about more attention needed for cleanliness for floors, carpets and odour. It bothers me that I have to give a review before seeing theirs first. I always give a five star rating for guests whether deserving or not just to make sure we are discriminating. However I am upset when someone like this who doesnt read the rules especiallly when asked not to touch laundry, can have two sets of rules for cleanliness. How could this women possibly think these linens are clean and sanitized for the next guests?
In a shared accomodation situation, I find that not cleaning the toilet after use is very disrespectful to the host.
If he has left, I would just let it pass and leave a review like "not suited for shared accomodation" and a thumbs down. Still there, the only option is to tell them that they should use the toilet brush and provided cleaning product when needed.
