Guest books for one person, shows up with three?

I have $20 per person extra on my listing.

The room has only a double bed.

Modern-day high-tech hippy gal who made the booking shows up with another guy and girl in tow. 3 for 1 room.

They only booked for 1 person, 2 nights...

I want to be nice, yet I feel they owe another $80!

@Mark207:

I would contact airbnb notifying them that the guest showed up with unregistered guests. Secondly you can notify airbnb that you plan to send the guest a message with something along the lines of: (see below), ask the airbnb rep if they have any other suggestions. I didn't check your listing but if you don't already have it as a rule, you should add that no unregistered guests are allowed in your unit or something along those lines.

Dear ____,

It was nice meeting you. I was reviewing your reservations and noticed you indicated 1 person instead of 3. My listing has an additional X amount for additional guests. This will come to a total of $X amount. I will be adjusting your reservation to indicate the accurate number of guests. Please follow the prompts to process payment immediately. Also, please send me the full names of the 2 additional guests. Please let me know if you have any questions or you may contact airbnb as well. Thank you.

Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

Modify the listing and add the extra people... It will send your guest an additional bill.

In future though, SAY SOMETHING! All you have to do is say; oh I was only expecting one guest? Are you all staying at the property ? Yes? Just to let you know there's some additional charges I'll need to process through Airbnb 🙂

You broke your own rules . And it's a bit late now but you can try the tips above and hope they accept or you will have to call ABB (I hope you have the no., otherwise google it or search on this platform - it's only about the third of all asked questions  😉

Next time don't even let them into the room and say it doesn't work that way, we will have to change the reservation, but one of you is going to have to find another accommodation.

Let's assume your insurance only covered 2 persons (always a perfect reason), then you would now already be in violation if something happened.

Before they even move into the room, take your device, computer out and make a change to 2 ppl. in their presence. Have guest accept right then and there with no excuses, and then have a suggestion ready for a motel or whatever nearby for the third person.

And only then do the 2 guests get to check into the room.

You need to see yourself as a tiny business in room rental and handle things that way - friendly, never break your own rules, act professionally.

Your baker wouldn't give you 3 loaves of bread just because you only paid one?

Andrea has provided excellent advice. It is particularly important since at times the credit card registered to the account may not have the funds to pay for the additional fee.

You had several options.  1.  Refuse to let them stay.  2. Tell them they can pay extra (if you are okay with that) and not let them move in until you send them an adjusted reservation that they have to okay.  3.  Or just deal with it.
