Hi I have just started letting my place out on airbnb - three weeks now.
all has gone well so far but tonight I had an enquiry where the opening line was "can we sort something out so we avoid the service charge" how do I deal with this?
I normally tell such guests, that unfortunately I can't fulfill their request, since AirBnb doesn't allow payments outside of their system.
Decline the inquiry and report the guest, you will find Report link near his photo ("Request for payment outside of Airbnb" option). You will have nothing but problems with this guest: 1) Probability of being blocked by AirBnb. 2) There is no guarantee that the guest won't try to cheat or scam you.
Guest: "Can we sort something out so we can avoid the service charge?"
Host: "I'm sorry. We don't do things like that. If our price is outside the amount of money you wanted to spend on accommodations, then there are a lot of other listings to look at. Otherwise, we would be happy to host you."
