Homeowner Insurance - Frustration!

Homeowner Insurance - Frustration!

i have been calling various companies for homeowners insurance for Airbnb.  Many do not offer Airbnb policies.

Foremost Insurance won't write one because I live in the same home that I use for Airbnb.

Proper Insurance won't write one because my guest "MIGHT" sleep walk and be naked while they are doing that.  They could walk into a common area where someone might see them.  Then IF they wake up while in that common area, there could be a lawsuit.  They only write policies for detached areas completely separate from your home OR a house that is only rented to them.

I have called and spent almost an entire day trying to find insurance.

I finally went with Geico Insurance, who does write Airbnb Policies.   I can't say I am happy with the price as it is much higher than  my regular homeowners without an Airbnb Policy, but that was to be expected.

This has been beyond frustrating!!!

Omg @Priscilla150 I can't believe such things could be written & included in Insurance policies.

Probably in 15-20 years time all the anti ABB & other online booking platforms will be a speck of dust.

Have a look through here in CC to see which Insurance companies others have had success with - use related keywords in the search box.

Have you considered reaching out to other Hosts in your location via Listings and sending an 'enquiry" to them to meet up and share stories about such issues?

Do you have a meet up or other group who Host ABB guests in your community?

Perhaps it's something you could do.

There's likely to be others here in CC in the same situation as yourself.

All the best

Thank you very much Helen.  No I haven’t seen a CC group for my area.  It would be nice to have one and bounce ideas off of each other. However, up to this point between work, my existing guestroom and my new Guestroom that is just being finished up, I have not had a lot of time.

I am really hoping things will settle down soon and then I can begin socializing both on and off media.

BTW:  I did find out that Travelers insurance is who has actually ensured me through Geico. I imagine people could skip Geico and go straight to Travelers.

have a great day.

Yes difficult to find. I'm in Los Angeles and don't know if my agent handles your area, but give Broadway Insurance (in downtown LA) a call. This was the only guy who could handle my complicated insurance situation with an Airbnb rider. All of the big name companies (Allstate, State Farm) could not insure me.

Thanks Pete.   I did find insurance through Geico, who uses Traveler's Insurance for these types of homes here in Oregon.  Apparently Traveler's never use to insure Airbnbs, but is now doing so.
