Winter Release Q&A with Airbnb’s Christy Schrader

Winter Release Q&A session

We rented our house last week for 3 nights.

On arrival - the guests decided to only stay for 2 nights.

Our cancellation policy is "STRICT" - so we should be given 7 days notice.

AirBnb has deducted the 3rd night stay from the amount paid to us

@Violet3  It seems that this action by Air BNB was against policy unless there were extenuation circumstances causing the cancellation.  Or, if the guest submitted a reservation change and it was accepted.  I gather neither happened, right?

We got no information at all.  The guest stated on their 'review' that they had decided to return home a day earlier.

We had no 'cancellation information" whatsoever - consequently - we were not able to relist this night as available.

Your cancellation policy can be overridden by Airbnb if the guest meets the Extenuating Circumstances policy.  https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/1320/what-is-airbnb-s-extenuating-circumstances-policy

Please not that your strict policy says: If the guest arrives and decides to leave early, the nights not spent are not refunded - the seven days is for before the check in and the guest can get 50% refunded.  https://www.airbnb.com/home/cancellation_policies#strict

No one has advised of any "extenuating" circumstances.

As far as we are aware - the guest simply decided to leave early.

We therefore feel we should have been paid the full amount
