How do host deal with guests destroying your home?

HELLO

I am saden to report that my apartment was so savagely damage beyond anything you can imagine. These people are worst than animals, how can anybody do something like this?

I hate to discriminate because we are not all the same, but I see a patten here of a certain race.  I found out that some individuals do go around renting airbnbs to throw parties where many people come and they charge money at the door.

I

t might have been about 50 people in there. I had to call the police because there was so many drugs and not to mentioned that my husband was attacked by them in front of my 9 year old daughter. It was very scary because nowadays you never know who has a gun. Its more than $5,000 in damages, its unbelievable.

They destroy our beds, sofas, sofa bed, doors, the bathroom and much more.

I feel like airbnb protect the criminals more than us the hosts.

I was very hurt because I try my best to treat people with decency, these animals had no respect of considerations of others.

I am very sorry if I am offending anybody with my language, but this situation is upsetting. 😔

@Suleika0I am sorry to hear it happened to you 😞 It's every host's nightmare, we are all playing Russian roulette here on Airbnb I am afraid.... I hope you made video, photos, got a police report and that you filed a damage claim. I hope you will get at least a part of the refund.

Yes, you offended animals, don't 🙂

Thank you Branka & Silvia,

For the most part it has been a great expereince, but this was waaaay out of control.

@Suleika0

Sorry you had such a horrible experience. I've been there - more than once - and I know how gut-wrenching it is. I do hope you'll receive proper reimbursement.

Unfortunately, guests renting homes solely for the purpose of throwing huge, hardcore parties- and more often than not, selling tickets to the "event" - then leaving the place trashed, is a serious and utterly destructive phenomenon that's spreading like wildfire in cities worldwide. In recent times, there has been a shocking upsurge in host's homes being literally destroyed by marauding revellers, particularly in the US, UK, Australia and now creeping in to several other European cities.

Hosts - particularly those with larger listings - really need to be aware of this, and take every possible precaution to avoid these scammers. Security cameras, personally checking ID on arrival (the only reliable method of ID verification), asking  questions - whatever it takes. And your gut instinct is your best defence. If you have even the slightest inkling that trouble is afoot - you're probably right.

Sorry this is a bit late to help you, @Suleika0, but there are several FB groups where proactive hosts are regularly monitoring various social media outlets with the aim of spotting the posts advertising these gigs before they can happen, and immediately  warn the host so they have a chance to avert the disaster before it happens. Just one example is Atlanta host Kendrick Khoe, of the Airbnb Guest Blacklist FB group, who is doing an admirable job - and putting enormous time and effort into - rooting out and shutting down gigs in various US cities, every weekend

I'm sure there'll be lots of blinkered hosts who'll denounce this post as fabrication, or scaremongering, but like it or not, hosts need  to be fully aware that it's happening. Every night of the week. On an epic scale. At least then they have some chance to prevent their homes being punted out as illegal pop-up nightclubs.

@Susan17  thank you so much for your kind words. I didn’t know about this type of parties happening, but sadly they are happening.

If people don't want to believe it and take the right precautions, it will happen to them. Airbnb always says that this kind of incident are very rare, but they are not. Like you mentioned before, some people have Facebook pages reporting these individuals. Not only with Airbnb, but with other platforms as well.

Airbnb reimbursed me somehow, but doesn't want to take any other responsibility in protecting us better. That is how I feel, but I know that others may have a different opinion on the matter. Like I mentioned in my post, if I continue hosting for Airbnb, unfortunately I will be denying some types of individuals. We are not all the same, but when we see a pattern, something is up.

Regards!

@Susan17
