I have a guest coming to stay who will be bringing 2 additional guests but for only 2 days of their week long reservation. How can I make this change to reflect the number of persons just for those days?
At this time you cannot do this. If you charge an extra person fee, use the Resolution Center to collect it for the nights that there are extra guests.
What I have done is to alter the reservation and make a new reservation. For example:
2 guests for April 8-10 and the 3rd person will come for April 10-12. However, the current reservation is 2 guests for April 8-12.
Alter the current reservation to end on the 10th instead of the 12th then have them make a new reservation for 3 people for April 10-12.
@Farah1 This is an option, but kind of sucks for the guest, as they'll have to pay more in Airbnb service fees and if you have a cleaning fee, they'll be charged this twice.
@Cynthia-and-Chris1 you can always send a special offer or an amount you want when you alter the reservation if you are willing to waive the cleaning fee and service fee for the guest.
By creating a second reservation you potentially set yourself and the guest up to pay more. If either of you should cancel, the non-refundable fees and penalties are double. And, as a host, you cannot create a reservation. I would be very interested @Farah1 to know how you created a reservation separate from the existing one for a guest.
@Alice-and-Jeff0 I cannot create a reservation from my end as a host. It needs to be an agreement with the guest to create a 2nd reservation if they want to.
Regarding the extra fee for a new reservation (the 2nd one), that is the consequences that we need to take if we want to go with this option. I don't mind it because of this > with the example of 2 people 8-10 then 3 people 10-12. Having a 2nd reservation for the 10-12 will make me need to pay an extra fee, yes correct, but whether the reservation is for them or I have a different guest wants to book the room for those dates, I still need to pay the fee at the end of the day.
I prefer to have a reservation that is aligned with the reality (having the right # of guests in the reservation), so I always alter the # of guests even if there is no extra fee for extra guests.
If you don't mind having 3 people in the house with 2 listed in the reservation, then you can just alter the reservation for the amount of the reservation (to charge the 3rd person w/out changing the # of guests from 2 to 3 to make sure they do not get charged for 3 people for the whole stay and only for the nights when the 3rd person is there).
This happened to me upon arrival today! The guests asked for an additional person to join them on the last night. Hmm...
Yeah, I just said it was fine. I was sort of taken by surprise and just went with it. I'll be ready next time..
