Hurrican Irma

How should I instruct my guest to prepare?  Since I have never had the experience, I am wondering what preparations they should take?

I just googled "prepare for a hurricane hotel" to get ideas for what guests (not homeowners) should do, @Christine493. It was very helpful. This hit, in particular: http://www.uniglobephillipstravel.com/post/view/stuck-in-a-hotel-during-a-hurricane-here-s-what-to-d...

You could print for them the advice the article gives, or send them the link. You are able to send links to booked guests without the system blocking them.

You may find they have googled it already.

Stay safe - you and your guests!

Hey Lawrence. I am not worried about the hurricane (not so sound selfish), beucase if the flight is canceled, I wont even make it down there. My question is to airbnb, since I wont be able to come, will I get a refund?

BTW never mind this post. I replied on the wrong thread.

Hey there,

Do any airbnb hosts have space for other airbnb hosts for evacuating teacher and med student couple? This is getting extremely difficult to find. Thought I'd post here.

I live in Pawleys Island,S.C. and we are bracing for Irma but believe we will miss the brunt of the storm. I have an apartment listed under Pawleys Creekside Retreat that is available for a long term situation and a dog or cat or both would be welcomed. I do have a big dog myself  but arrangements coud be made to share a large back yard.

@Christine493My sister lives in Pensacola and used to live near Delray Beach.  She is right now visiting me in California.  She says that your guests should follow the recommendations of local officials.  If a voluntary evacuation is being recommended they should follow the recommended evacuation route, go away from the coast, head to higher ground inland or proceed northwest as much as they can.  If they can leave the state now they should do so.  Once a mandatory evacuation is announced (which my sister thinks is imminent) then they will have to leave and will encounter massive gridlock.  They should fuel up their car, collect water, blankets, batteries and supplies that they can get hold of and leave immediately.

@Christine493Several airlines are adding flights and waiving fees.  If they flew in they should contact their carrier or go to the airport and try their best to get out that way.  American says they will be winding down their flights on Friday.

We don't have many hurricanes but we are on a tsunami coast line. I have a detailed plan in my guest booklet of what to do and where to go in the event of one or hearing the tsunami sirens. Theres also a grab bag containing emergency supplies 🙂

im also flying from LA to FL on Sunday or not:) but yay for travel insurance 🙂

I'm wondering when Airbnb will open the Disaster Response listings for Irma! Have any hosts been asked to participate? My daughter has to evacuate.

I know that it's been difficult to figure out a safe place * to evacuate to* so maybe Airbnb has had to wait for more clarity on its path?

I have been trying to figure that out as I have an apartment that could be used as a long term living arrangement. I could accomodate a pet ot two, also. However, I don't know how to get that info out. I live in Pawleys Island, S.C. and host through Pawleys Creekside Retreat

I was just logging on to see if they have any disaster relief information as well.  I have an airbnb house in Vermont, which I know is a long way away, but I'd like to open my house up (as my calendar permits) to a family that is in need of housing (for free).  I read an article about a family that drove to an airbnb in Indiana, so maybe someone wouldn't mind coming as far as VT  for free housing.  I'm just not sure how to access people who need housing and can get to VT.

If you are a family that is evacuating and you truly are in need of a place to stay, we have space for up to 4 people.  If you can afford a hotel, please leave this for those truly in need. We are in Richmond, VA and have 1700 sf furnished basement with 2 bedrooms and a full bath.  Be safe and best of luck.

Hello @Troy28,

Lovely to meet you. It is very kind to see that you would like to help, thanks for sharing this.

I am sorry I have had to remove your email address from your post, this is because your post is publicly visible and so for safety reasons I have to remove any personal information shared. Just to let you know, we do have a direct messaging system here in the Community Center (just hover over the post profile image and click 'Send Message'), however in terms of offering you listing for free, you may find it useful to take a look at the Airbnb Disaster Response page.

Thanks so much,

What can we do with this booking?

Does anyone has an idea? Thanks

What is Airbnb doing about Hosts who have lost bookings and incured loses due to the storm? In my case someone instant booked while I was talking to a guest and then backed out the day of the booking [not a good case for instant book] we both lost out.My next guest booked 3 days and only stayed 2 because of the storm comming [we have a 3 day min.] of course we refunded the 3rd day.

Now the girl who instant booked is getting all her money back and the host gets nothing.Something is wrong with this picture.
