I declined a request but would like pre-approve now

I decided to decline a request because the group was too big. The same group is now reduced to the number I can accomodate and so I would now like to host them. I am wondering whether the fact that I first refused a particular guest, the system prevents him from making a new request.

Thanks for insights.

Andy from HillcrestHostel here in 😎 Sunny San Diego.  As a hoat I can tell you I've seen multiple requests coming from the same person, even after I've already denied them once, so I believe the answer is yes, but don't be surprised if the host denies you again anyway for another reason or simply now they won't believe your "party" has gotten smaller.

There is a difference in declining an inquiry and declining a request to book. You don't need to "pre-approve" or "decline" and inquiry. However you must "accept" or "decline" a request to book, and do so within a certain time frame, or it will affect your stats.

It's not unreasonable to "decline" a request to book if the party doesn't appear to meet your criteria. If the party wants to book your place after you have already declined them, they can indeed send in a new request to book with the new information they provide. Tell the guest to resubmit their request, showing the proper number of guests.

It's important to communicate clearly your expectations in your listing and by messaging on the Airbnb platform. Don't make any promises or agreements with the guest without backing it up in writing on the Airbnb platform. If you do, then Airbnb support will be more limited in what they can do for you if things go wrong.

Just be sure the group truly has reduced in number, and will not turn up at your accomodation with the original group size. I would be wary of a group that reduced itself so they could fit in your space. Guests have been known to "fib" a little to save money or just because they liked the look of a space.
