Hi! I need an advice.
I had accommodation and I have received information from my host, that keys have been lost from letterbox.
My host described very cleary verbally where to put the keys, but somehow the keys are lost from letterbox, where i truly left them.
Now i have received invoice from the host to pay for the keys and its not small amount.
Should i pay for the keys, should i report this to police my own to investigate or what should i do?
What are my rights?
Thanks for advice,
G.
When something goes wrong with the stay be it damage or loss, the host must contact the guest to ascertain if the guest is aware of the issue and accepts responsibility. If the guest does, then a claim is made against the security deposit. If the guest does not accept responsibilty, the host will ask Air BNB to investigate and determine if the claim is legitimate.
If you truly deny any responsibility for the lost keys, then let Air BNB know and the process will continue. It is up to the host to provide proof that a guest caused the claim.
@Gerli2 A letterbox is not at all a safe place to leave keys- anyone could have come along and taken the keys. The host should come up with a more secure place to leave keys- a lockbox with the key inside it is what many hosts use when they have self-check-in and out. You say you definitely put them there- I don't see how you can be held responsible for keys that went missing from a place anyone could walk by and access.
Classic nightmare scenario.
Primary reasons why
1) I greet guests personally
2) I don’t give guests a key to my family home?.....would you seriously think it’s a good idea to give a complete stranger the keys to your home?
If you can’t be there personally perhaps the host should consider installing a combination key in pad at the entrance to prevent similar scenarios in the future?
