Northern California emergency power shutdown

Several red flag warnings have been issued for some counties in Northern California. PG&E has additionally sent out information of a potential power shut off done as a proactive measure. Does anyone else have information about what we should be telling guests about this? I’m concerned that during a guests stay, the power would get shut shut off. I was thinking of printing the information I received from PG&E and leaving it in the guestroom along with some flashlights. I’m not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

Hi @Candy7. You can add this extra information in the “further information” on your listing.

Also, take a screen shot of the formal message and this can be sent to guests as part of your initial conversation. You can state you have torches etc, in case this unknown power outage occurs. Then the guest can cancel if they wish to....

other things to consider:

1. Do you have running water if there is a power outage, as some places may not. If not, arrange to have some for cooking or cleaning.

2. Got a portable camping gas cooker?

3. Thermos for maintaining and storing some hot water in it. Keep it filled and hot.

4. Battery operated fans if needed.

5. LED candles

6. Glow stick or battery operated night lights

If expecting rolling power outages, you might want to consider a small generator (use wisely and not in confined spaces) to run your fridge etc.

Food and drink:

Do you have in this emergency, some simple tin food and a manual can opener? (if you have an electric one) Plus easy to fill tummy items likesome snack food,  tinned tuna, cous cous or some packs of two minute noodles. Crackers or long life flat bread? Bottled water or juice. This can also make the pain of waiting for a meal, to go away, or make the meal!

@Cathie19  Thanks for all the helpful suggestions!  I have ordered a generator for small items (to recharge cell phones, etc) and some other items as well as some nifty solar charger items. I’ve sent messages to the guests Who are scheduled to arrive in the next few days also. I continue to be puzzled by the lack of response /communication from Airbnb however. They were very quick to offer us all the “Open Homes” during last years widfires in California (of course completely at the host’s individual expense!)  I’m wondering where this “helpful “ Airbnb spirit is now?  Hmmmm.

Power is out here in Auburn and I have three guests from Friday through Monday. Sending messages to them now. No one knows how long this will go on.
