What do guests want?? I get so upset when the pay £30/night in CORNWALL in AUGUST and all they do is find fault and it’s them that want and expect everything 😢😢 they have a fantastic bedroom, a stunning CLEAN bathroom and a bar with TV, plates, fridge microwave knives and forks
Cleanliness .... kitchen which they don’t have the use of, but unfortunately need to access the stairs, but then I look at the good reviews.
@Carmen578 You have great reviews. I second @Inna22 question - what are people complaining about? If it were me I would increase the price. Unfortunately, it seems that the less people pay the more they complain, no idea why but many will attest to it. Some hosts have said that when they increase prices guests are more grateful and they get better reviews. Go figure!
Cleanliness mainly 😢 and thank you. On the other hand I get guests that are do grateful. I know I must harden up
@Carmen578 Is the kitchen old, not up-to-date? If so I would mention it in the description, or de-clutter if applicable. I have an old apartment and even though it is professionally cleaned and scrubbed some people seem to think that new=clean, old=dirty. I remember a post on here when a host got a low mark on cleanliness because their beautiful collector item antique Persian rug was old.
But they don’t have the use of the kitchen, and I have de cluttered as much as I can 😊
@Carmen578 , with some guests, it is what they see. I stayed with a lovely couple a few years ago who offered a pristine bedroom and bath, but they were in the process of helping a family member move, and so the downstairs was a bit of a tip and there was little they could do to speed up the cleanup. They had been knocked enough cleanliness stars by previous guests that they said, "by the way, this is not part of the review," when I arrived. I wasn't put off by that. So if your kitchen is showing wear, or you are in the midst of canning tomatoes or whatever, I think it would be okay to say something similar if you are comfortable with it.
Awwhh, thank you 😊 it’s as tidy as it can be and they don’t have the use of it. I try and clean up as I go when I cook and dish tea....
@Carmen578 Here's a good one: my neighbor across the road, who also hosts, approached me about a bad review she had gotten. The guests said something like "The neighbor yelled at our taxi driver. This is totally unacceptable!"
I never yelled at any taxi driver. He was parked in front of my gate with his motor running. I went out and asked him who he was looking for. He said he didn't know. I asked if he had a name or phone number. He said no. I commented (in a normal tone of voice and unemotionally) that it seemed strange that their dispatcher sent them out without any contact info for the person they were meant to pick up. End of story.
The guests were not even privy to my conversation with the driver, as they didn't emerge from my neighbor's property until I was already going back in my own gate.
It seems there are some guests who feel the need to complain about something in their review, even if it has zero to do with the space they paid for or their interaction with their host. Sigh.
That’s so true, they’re not happy unless they’re moaning . Hey ho! Long memory and the won’t be back 😊
