Firstly, I've been an Airbnb host for a few years, and Airbnb has made thousands off me in commissions.
My episode this afternoon makes me want to leave the site completely.
Payment method verification:
I have requested to book a room in London tonight. I have used Airbnb as a traveller for over 3 years. It would not accept my payment method without verification. It asks me to look at my credit card statement for 2 small transactions, (which should appear instantly) and confirm back to them the amounts.
These transactions did not appear instantly, and still haven't appeared.
I was then given an option to upload a statement. I did this, and then Airbnb said it would take 24 hours to verify (the booking request was for tonight, so that's useless)
I then decided to start again and try via paypal. This time it worked.
I now had 2 booking requests active for 1 property for tonight. I cancelled the one that still required verification. Airbnb cancelled both the requests.
I had to apologise to the host who was getting all the booking and cancellation requests. They probably think I'm a fraud.
As a verified airbnb user for many years as a host and a traveller, I have lost a lot of faith in their system.
I was thinking it was about time to start using other sites anyway.
Enough ranting.. on to getting my flat registered on other sites 🙂
Thanks for reading!
Good luck to you on other web pages.
Usually if this happens, I will contact airbnb direct and see what is going on. the verification part is a hassle (I do agree). however, on the other hand, it makes booking with airbnb safer that before.
My Frustration is equal to yours...Man, I'm a superhost for over 5 years this just seems insane. Maybe it is just with american express ?????? I want airbnb to descrimate a little better and not make it so hard for a superhost to book a bloody room.
Alicia, still frustrated.
