Afternoon all,

Hope you can help with a payment question.

I have booked a few times and paid via PayPal......I live in Australia, have booked an apartment in Melbourne via Airbnb .....the payment went to Airbnb UK. Why did the payment go to the UK?

Hi again all,

its mark again....I have noticed plenty of views but no comments....so I thought I would add extra info.

I asked about my payment going to the uk site for two reasons......firstly, some other payments have gone  to Airbnb aus not the uk.....so why the uk?  Does the host choose?

and secondly there is an extra currency conversation added to my cost....for instance the $500 payment attracted a $15 charge.......so how can I determine where the payment is going?

@Mark1388  No, the host wouldn't have the ability to direct where Airbnb processes the payment through. I'd suggest you contact Airbnb to find out the ins and outs of this and why you were charged as you were. Airbnb does do what I consider a sneaky "currency conversion fee". They claim that because it's a US based company that payments are converted to US dollars, but I seriously doubt that- I'm sure they have accounts in myriad different currencies, it would be stupid of them not to.
