I have made a reservation for a property for the 15-18th January. This booking has been accepted and confirmed. The price was 145$ for three days. 48$ per day.
After I made the booking the host has updated his prices and they have increased to 57$ per day. I want to extend my booking by one day so I went to the change reservation section and I expected to be charged the increased rate for 1 day but instead Airbnb is asking for the increased price for the original three days resrevation as well. Airbnb now wants to charge me 4*57$ instead of the original 3*48$ + 1*57$.
I contacted the host and he says he has no idea why this would happen and that he is happy if I can extend it by one day and pay 57$ extra. Does anybody have any experience of this and how to fix it?
Thanks
Obviously, there is a bug in the system, but you can easily work around it by asking your host to do the amendment to the reservation by entering the correct price for the whole stay. You will then receive an amendment message that you will have to accept.
Hello @Andrew446,
I presume that you haven't yet submitted the change request.
You could ask the host to make the change for you. When a host initiates the change they're given a total price box.
They can enter the new dates and the new price calculated as 2*48 + 1*57 + cleaning fee should they agree to it. Airbnb will then add their % fee to that as usual.
If the host does this you will get a notification of the new price which you must accept for the new arrangement to take effect. If you decline then the reservation stays as a 2 night one at the original cost.
You lould also ask the host to temporarily revert to a $48 price. You may have to do some persuasion on that one and co-ordinate with them so as you make the reservation change immediately to minimise the chances of them getting a new booking at $48.
Steve.
@Andrew446 @Marit-Anne0 Maybe it doesn't deserve the name "bug in the system" but it is set like that. Anything that happens after we click all those buttons/keys/whatever else goes according to some human-made algorithms on the server.
The correct question is: how is ammendment to a reservation recognised by the system? Is the extra day added to the previous booking? Or does it actually rely on deleting and creating a new reservation? Because if it runs like the latter option, then changing prices will affect it.
But here let's call in @Lizzie0 or @Quincy to answer it.
