Question about Superhost status

This is CRAZY!!!

I lost my Superhost status because of canceling my reservation 10 minutes after it was booked when I found out that my guest was a convicted felon, & a registered sex offender!!!!   That's the ONLY cancelation I've had in the past year that I've been a host.  Don't you think there should be a "court of sorts" to determine the reason WHY someone NEEDS to cancel????  I'm disappointed that Airbnb handles ALL cancellations in the same manner- with a DEMOTION!

DIXIE

Hi Dixie,

I'm in the same boat.  I have a digital keypad on my front door and a regular guest chose to enter my home and take up lodging in a room without a confirmed reservation.  I let him stay that night (with my adult son in the house) but told him(for trust and safety reasons) I was going to cancel his reservations for the future. My first and only cancellation in over 500 bookings and I was dropped from super host status.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but regret losing the status.  Sometimes I think the system is too automated on the headquarters end of things while being very personal on this end.

Also, I cannot figure out how to email airbnb to protest the change in status can you?

Never cancel a reservation as a host.  In your cases, you should have contacted airbnb and had them cancel for you.

Use the search function at the top right corner of this thread and search for "contact airbnb"

Thanks for your reply!  I DID contact Airbnb to let them know WHY I cancelled...they sent me a message thanking me for making them aware of the situation.  Yes, I cancelled, & THEN contacted Airbnb, but because the trip was "just booked", I wanted it handled right away!  As a newbie, I didn't know how long it would take Airbnb to reply, and I'm protection my "home"!!

I would suggest you both go back to AirBnB - explain the circumstances (which hopefully is backed up by the BnB messaging system)  - how horrible to find a guest has let himself into your home and that another potential guest was an offender.

Ask them to look at lifting the cancellation and reinstating your superhost status if you otherwise meet the critieria.

As a superhost you will have been given a number that gives you speedy access to BnB you do use this next time you have an issue rather than just cancelling, tempting as I understand this is under the circumstances.

I reached out to airbnb and they cleared the confusion of my super host status and apologized for the error.

While it is difficult to reach them, I always get excellent results when I talk to someone on the phone.

I cancelled(vs. reaching airbnb initially) because I was traumatized in the moment and it was my first thought.

All is well.
