Questions about Stats

Questions about Stats

Hi everyone,

My husband and I joined AirBnB as hosts in February, so we have been members for a little more than 2 months at this point. We have two listings; a room (in our home) that has been listed since February, and an express yacht that has been listed since last week. We have hosted one guest in our home so far, which went very well, by the way, much better than I expected actually.

We are beginning to see a lot of views from potential guests for our boat, and have gotten a few inquiries since we listed it, but I have a few questions about the stats I see on the AirBnB site and in the AirBnB app for our boat listing:

1. On the main listing page for our boat, below the date selection and 'Request to Book' buttons, there is a notification that states: "People are eyeing this place. 9 others are looking at it for these dates" when I select the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. If I change the dates, the number of people "looking at it for these dates" changes. The number seems to be slowly increasing for each date range I select. What does "XX others are looking at it for these dates" mean? I mean I know what it means, but why isn't the number fluctuating down and up instead of just increasing. I assume if someone looks at the listing the number ticks up by 1, but if they close their browser or log out of AirBnB shouldn't the number of those "looking at it for these dates" tick down by 1?

2. Through the website on the stats page, gotten to by clicking on Dashboard and then Stats, it states that 32 people looked at the listing in total for my boat since I listed it last week with a breakdown by day (for example, it states that 10 people looked at the listing yesterday). However, in the AirBnB app, it states that 98 people have looked at the listing in total so far.

(a) Why are the numbers from each so wildly different (32 on the website, 98 in the app)?

(b) Are the stats in the app polluted by our views? Stated another way, is the app smart enough to filter out views by us so only views by others are counted?

3. Why is it impossible to get a hold of an actual person at AirBnB?

Thank you

- Leila
